Edge or XLT?

Alright, the time has come to get the last part for my truck before i paint it. the grille.

I dont really want an aftermarket grill right now, so i'm gonna head down to certi-fit and get one, but which?

Edge grill for sure. You ought to get a Edge valance, bumper and hood before you take it on for paint. Will look 100x better.

Why not go with an 05+ grill? When you do want a Billet grill, it is easier to pop it out, no cutting required.

I know it would be more work, but an '06 grill or a STX one would look great.

To run an 04+ style grille on a 98-03, you'd need a header panel and hood, and well.....you'd need a grille too. lol.

Just an FYI.

I'd love to do that, but a little too much right now.

Alright, shane, i'm looking through my trusty certi-fit catalog and it has like 4 different valences, but only 2 that are non textured, so my choices are

1) Edge/tremor with fogs, paint to match
2) XL/XLT without fogs

Shane, in your picture with your brother (based on this above) i'm guessing you have the edge valence, and your brother has the XL/XLT just like i do. but yours almost goes all the way around, but your bothers does go all the way around... i cant get a new bumper just yet, so will my stock bumper fit on the edge valence for a while? i'll get a chrome one when i do though.

01-03 4x4 XLT's got the fogs and texture(with chrome upper)
01-03 EDGE's got the fogs and smooth painted(visually the same as the XLT 4x4)(with painted upper)
01-03 XL and 2wd XLT both got textured fog-less valences with painted upper for XL(like yours and my brother) or painted (for XLT's)
Your 4th option is probably an FX4 valence. You dont want that. They have extra cuts in the 'grille' hole of the valence to compensate for the larger, different designed towhooks on the Fx4 trucks.

My truck is a 2001 XLT 4x4...So yes, it does have an Edge style valence on it. But textured.

You cannot put an Edge valence on a 2wd XL/XLT bumper. Take a look at the following pic where the rear edge of the bumper combo meets the front of the wheelwell....

The upper bumpers are different as well...but only on the very ends to compensate for the 'notch' or 'kick up' in the valence.

Ask yourself...do you want a painted valence? If so, get one that has EDGE or paintable in the description. If not, stick with textured 01-03 XLT 4x4.

I hope I'm making sense. lol.

Hun...get a 04-05 chrome grille shell, and we'll mold my extra 01-03 honeycomb into it...

It'll be another one of those GO originals...

Assuming your truck is the first one pictured in this thread...he's a little idea of what it would look good should you go that route...

01-03 grille just like yours currently, but with billet. 01-05 4x4 XLT upper bumper. 01-03 EDGE valence...

Big help shane

everythings clear now, and that bottom one looks pretty good. but one more question, certifit has 2 chrome bumpers. a XLT 4WD, and an XLT 2WD. are they different? they are different prices also...

Go back to the pic of my truck and my brothers.....both ours are painted, but the actual bumper, not the finish, is the exact same as the chrome versions. If you wanna run a Edge valence or a XLT 4x4 valence, you need to get a XLT 4wd bumper.

Go up. Look at pic. See difference...
