EMERGENCY!! Need help with Xcal 2.

My dad has an 02 Ranger 4.0 with the extra low emissions stuff. His CEL came on yesterday. I have an Xcal2 that I bought this year for my 99 Ranger 4.0. They arte both supposed to have OBDII, yet when I plug my tuner into his truck to pull codes it acts like it doesn't even get power. Need help ASAP!

I thought the Xcal II was programed to only work on one vehicle?

It should be able to pull codes off another ford vehicle, but I am not sure. I know it wouldn't pull codes off my gf's Camaro.

I do not know offhand whether or not the one-vehicle rule applies to reading ODBII codes, but i'll find out.

With the one-vehicle allowance, once you put a tune on the vehicle, it saves your stock tune for future re-tuning if needed. Once this has occured, the X2 actually VIN-locks itself, so that it will not work on any other vehicle UNTIL the original VIN vehicle has been re-tuned to stock.

Check fuse 17. It is shared by the cigarette lighter and the Data Link Connector under the column.

the X2 will read OBD-II codes on any OBD-II vehicle, if when you plug it in, it doesnt get power, the port fuse may be blown, or the port may be bad. if the X2 gets power in your truck, then the X2 is fine

Thanks Bob & Bob the fuse it was, Bob(SoundPer4mance) told me that on AIM just before I read it here. On a side note, I think we just fixed his lighter which hadn't worked since he bought the truck.

I have a feeling you knew before I posted that.

I think we've decided dad is going to get the BamaChips Custom Eliminator Switch Chip. He is going to get a 87 Performance, 87 Torque, now we just gota figure what else he wants ot get for the remaining 1 or 2 programs. We will probably order from you tomorrow Bob. I think mom wants to get it for him for his B-day present next weekend.

That's cool! He only really wants two tunes any way. I'll try to get the order placed tonight. Is Doug very swamped right now? We would kinda like to get this before April 8th. But that ofcoures isn't necessairy.

the only thing i could see that would slow it down is the fact that he MAY not have an switch chips in stock, he may need to order it from SCT. the faster you can place the order the better, and ill try to get doug to put a rush on it

I can see a reason why, because once you pop the PCM open, the PCM's warranty is voided. I know you(Bob) and probably other's had problems with the chip messing up their PCM and having to buy a new one.

The programmer is alot better and doesn't cost much more than a chip. Plus you can just set the PCM back to stock if you need to take it in for work. Plus like you used here, it can read codes and erase them.

right, i did lose a PCM to an apten chip, so i would reccommend a flasher anyway, but just flat out will not sell one for a ranger, F150 or explorer

Ok well then he is getting a tuner with 87 Performance, 87 Towing, and 87 Torque. I think he is going to like the improvement over the stock LEV crap.

yeah i had an apten on mine too, but after a few months it fried my PCM, probably either because i installed it wrong, or the beach weather corroded the connectors some. at any rate the most common failure is not a manufacturers default but a problem causes by the nature of the way it mounts. its for that exact reason that doug does not want to sell them any more, or plain chips either, because they are so unreliable. now rand if you installed yours well (which im sure you did) and its kept sealed and kept from moving around, it should last just fine.
