Icon5 engine cost? 4.0L

Hi, I have a 98 ford ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 v6, I was wondering if anyone here has bought a brand new, or rebuilt 4.0 engine and if so how much did it cost? Don't need to know labor charges as I can do the work myself. Also my engine runs fine now I just want to have a back up replacement because it has 200k on it and i would rather be safe than sorry. So if anyone has prices for new or rebuilt that would be great and im not intrested in a junk yard motor.

i dont know if they would be available like that. you could maybe find one of the new 4.0 sohcs but i doubt you will find a new complete ohv.

you cold get a new/rebuilt performance v6 from tom morana, you d have to contact them though. i'd consider the v8 swap if you get to the point you need a new engine in a truck that age.

Okay I also had another idea.... Has anyone ever done a full rebuild on this motor? if so what did that cost? Im thinking if I buy a non running motor from junk yard and I rebuild myself I might save money from buying one that has already been done or a brand new one. I cant rebuild my current one because I could not afford to have my truck down for the amount of time it would take to do a rebuild, So I would need to do it on a junk yard engine. And im talking full rebuild too... crank, bearings, pistons, rings, rods, cams, lifters, valves, gaskets, ect.... + machine shop charges im guessing 3-4 hundred

Well I contacted them for a quote but no response yet, However I found out advanced auto parts can get me a new one for $2,035 which is not too bad but I would like to find a bit cheaper.

Yeah for 2K might as well buy another truck.

Youre engine if well taken care of in the past will last another 20-100K miles. I'm on 250k and it purrs like a kitten.

Well there is nothing wrong with my engine it runs great. But if I'm ganna put mods and money into the truck, I would like it to last a good amount of years, it has no rust and frame is still great so if I put a new motor should be like a new vehicle.

seems pointless if your engine is running great though.
