Howdy, picked up this console from the junkyard today after seeing everybodies explorer consoles in their trucks. I think its from a 2004-2005 explorer. I wanted to know if anybody happened to install this in their rangers and if its worth it? Its not the standard one i see in everybodies ranger, this one is slightly different. hopefully it still fits? Any tips for driling into the bed ?
Also i was thinking of doing the 40/40 bench seat mod to get rid of this pesky middle seat and make room for the console, what do yall think?
Oh sick! did you have to fabricate any parts for it? i know people mentioned that the vent under the passenger side might be a problem?
I modified the rear silver bracket because it was too big and interfered with the floor of the truck. I didn't secure the console up front because it stays in place pretty well because of how tight it fits between the seats. As you've seen, I did have to trim the console to clear the passenger side defrost vent. You can see where I cut it in the photo above.
The console in my 2003 Ranger is made for a manual transmission Explorer, but they were only offered in 2002 with this style console. The opening in the console doesn't really match the shift lever of the Ranger, so I wouldn't recommend this on a Ranger with a stock manual transmission shifter. I have a Hurst shifter in my truck, so I made a bracket that spaces the lever back and aligns it with the opening in the console.
