hard starts

im finding lately that its taking more and more to get my truck started, wether its hot or cold. sitting for a long time or just for a minute.... when i first got the truck, turn the key for a second and it fired right up... now, i gotta crank for like 3-5 seconds, and if i let go too soon on the crankage, sometimes itll stumble for a couple seconds then start, other times it wont, then i gotta crank some more... what could this be?

truck has 26,000 miles on it, and im only due for an oil change. air filter was changed at 15K miles... so what else is there?

I wouldn't mess with it. At this time/mileage it should be under warranty.

n3ilz.....

dpable? im thinkin of pulling a plug and taking a peak at them what should i look for as a "bad" sign.... also, for $6 for plugs its worth it for me to not waste my time argueing with the dealership that says "truck starts fine"

sometimes i really hate the dealer, its like, here i am, i bought this thing, i take care of it, keep it SPOTLESS baby the **** out of it, unlike every other car in their lot, and yet its like, "well thats ok, thats normal"... argh its soo agrevating sometimes.

I think it's a coil pack or something another.

No distributor. It's DIS -- distributorless ignition system.

Your problem can be caused also by the shaft position sensor (one type of timing or intermittent problem), fuel pressure problems, fuel mixture problems (MAF etc), poor voltage at startup (bad battery or chronic charging problems), bad PCM, bad wiring or connector -- really it's not necessarily just a "plugs and wires" type of thing necessarily.

The entire ignition system is controlled by the PCM based on sensor input. It should be one of the most reliable things on the truck -- until it's not. Then it can be a pain to diagnose without the proper gear.

This is why I tell you to go to the dealer. Throwing random parts at the problem is one way to fix it -- it's just not necessarily the best way (or least expensive) when dealing with a vehicle that's still in warranty. 6 good plugs is what? 25+ dollars? Wires, good ones, 25+ dollars...adds up after awhile.

Aren't there any other Ford dealers around you? You don't have to use any specific one.
