Down here there arent many volunteer depts. We get paid to fight fire lol but mostley we run medical calls on account that there isnt many fires unless you count the brush fires. Anyway with that said the only truck i drive with lights and sirens is owned by the county.

But I do have a scanner and a truma kit with gloves and BSI **** in my truck....does that count

I've since added the 130 watt off-road lights to the compliment of flashing lights for your blinding pleasure but haven't take a new video since then.

MVC's are always nice. Orlando Miami Jacksonville guys see fire when all the old out of code buildings get lit up buy the local firebugs. Most the structures down here are fairly new with detectors and sprinkler systems.

I am by no means associated with any firefighting, EMT, or law enforecement agency, but one night I got real close to one!

Wayy back in high-school, I was dating a girl a year younger than me...we did the usual dinner and a movie kinda thing one night, and enjoyed ourselves...

I installed a set of blue and white strobe lights in my headlights and corner markers, and put them on a remote-controlled switch used for fog-lights the day before. I was big into showing my truck at the time, and had all the matching blue accessories, blue neon, and blue LED nitrous purge, so I thought the strobes would look cool at the late evening shows. The switch had a problem with accepting interferrance, evidently, because a sheriff had been alerted by a person in the movie theater parking lot that a black truck had blue and white flashing lights on in the parking lot and thought something was wrong. When my date and I walked out after our movie was over, a sheriff and my parents were parked behind my truck. The lights had turned on while we were inside the theater, and lucky me I was on the theater's private property, or it would have been imitating a police officer, which holds a hefty fine! The sheriff ran the tag, which was registered to my parents, and they got a phone call. They came out and unlocked my door and turned them off for me, keeping me out of trouble. Luckily they didn't look behind the seat!!!

yeah its called impersonating an officer or emergency vehical its kinda against the law. Alot of time when we transport patients and its not really an emrgency then we dont light it up. The reason is the public seems to freak out and drive like idiots when there is an emergency vehical travling lights and sirens. Accidents on the way to the scene ( mostley when the vehical is running lights and sireins) is a huge % of emergency personel deaths

You guys are making me jealous. Up here in Oregon, (at least on the two departments I've been on) we're highly discouraged from responding to the scene in our POV, and we're absolutely NOT allowed to run any kind of flashing lights on our own vehicles. No 4-ways, no wig-wags, no NOTHING. it sucks. :-P

dang that sux........the department i am on is ALL volunteer. so we have to haul *** to get to the station so we can take a truck out and have a good response time........if we know we missed a truck then we can respond to the scene in our POV's. we all are issued a turn out gear bag when we join so we can keep out turnout gear in our POV's.

LOL.......squirrels.

I'm paid as well, and the only vehicle I have with lights and sirens is owned by the city. Lights (sirens are illegal on a POV here) are just ASKING for trouble.

My dad is one of the people that you firefighters get gear from. When your local fire department writes a grant to the govt(or whatever organization) he reviews it and chooses whether you get what you want or not.

He flies to Maryland once a year to some place they have, and a bunch of people who are really good at reviewing/writing grants review them for a week or so. If you need new gear there is grants that can be written to get the stuff.

I can ask him if he has any tips. The only one i can really remember is that yo should keep it very formal, and explain why exactly you need the firehouse exhaust system. He said that people who write "we need a ____ because lil timmy fell down the well and billy bob lost his foot in an accident" don't get stuff. Sure, they're "sob stories" but in that kinda politics sob stories dont get ya anywhere.

Good luck with it though :-) I'll tell him if he ever runs across that to pass it haha :-D
