Icon5 Skid plate bolts?

Called ford and they are ridiculous on the pricing. So what are my other options? I only found one thread and it was over 5 years old and didn't help much. Has anyone found any at like lowes that work just as well?

yeah any hardware store will have good grade 8 bolts for that. not sure what size they are though, maybe someone else can chime in with that info.

Ford says they are a M8 1.25x20. Do I need to put a nut on them or will it hold in the threads on the frame?

That could be right, my memory sucks. There should be threads in the frame/ifs. However, mine stripped out, so I put a nut on the back of the ones attached to the ifs and I had to redrill/tap the frame holes larger. Hopefully your threads are still ok.

This is correct but it is a thread cutting flange bolt. I used English equivalents and they worked great, you need 6 of them in total.

McMaster #90096A583 will work perfect and they are under $10 shipped for more then you will ever need.

if you still have the plastic cover where the skid goes, they are the same bolts, and you can use them to thread the holes then use 2 other standard bolts in the holes that are left.

When I put mine of I just drilled the holes out to 5/16" and taped the holes out to 3/8" NC and put regular old SAE grade 5 bolts in, works just as good, you likally have some on hand and if not cheap and easy to get.

I ended up using self tappers as well on the front and transfer case skidplates - started when I lost a nut from the transfer case skid plate - ended up using self tappers on the front skid plate as well. Seems to work ok. Haven't had to touch the fuel tank skid plate yet, and hopefully never will.
