Fuel Injector Cleaners
Do fuel injector cleaners, like the $3.00 bottled stuff you can get almost anywhere, worth the money? Or am I just wasting my money pouring this stuff into my gas tank?
I tried them and didn't get any gain in gas mileage or performance or anything. Waste of money IMO
idk, but i use them all the time
Every once in a while I'll put a bottle of that stuff in my tank. Maybe once every few oil changes. I don't know if it really helps though.
I run the lucas stuff. Its more of an oil to lube the entire fuel system along with the upper cylinder.
The truck runs better with it. |
i use the complete carb fuel system and injector cleaner made by gumout its like 6 bucks but every 4,000 i use 1 and it seems to gain atleast a few mpg, i have a 99 with about 81,000 miles
use Seafoam. does the same thing as well as burn out all of the carbon in the engine. That is some good stuff.

I used to use Seafoam (in the gas tank), until I discovered Red Line SI-1
Seafoam FTW... Although I've yet to use it.. Shane's hookin me up!

I use Techron most of the time but will use another quality brand one when on sale.
Actually your gas mileage doesn't go up but should get the gas mileage you are supposed to get. When your injector get dirty the spray pattern is not as efficient. Have you ever drop the garden hose sprayer and got dirt in the nozzle? When you used it it only sprayed water out of one side, that is the same idea. The cleaner also cleans out the rest of the fuel system. I still like to take a carb/throttle body spray and give my throttle body a good cleaner anytime I see a little "brass" color residue build up. We used to call it a shellac build up years ago. Clean your fuel system and fuel filter as needed. |

it should be gettin close for the 30k maintance on my truck. FUN |
I agree I use seafoam. But Lucas injector cleaner is good too
30k according to my owner's manual. Seafoam is the best to use. I like Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube with injector cleaner. Those are the only 2 that I would use. The rest I consider pissing your money away.

All of you Seafoam, and Techron, fans should try Red Line SI-1
Where can you get the Red Line SI-1 at?

Click the locate dealer button, and enter your zip code, but it looks like Advanced, Auto0zone, and O'Rielly all carry it around here. |
I have almost 70k on my fuel filter lol
Where is the fuel filter located anyways? Sorry if thats a stupid question but I haven't changed it since I've owned the truck.
^Inside the frame rail.

I was just gonna ask the same question, I don't want to break anything but if it's easy enough I may try changing mine. As I know it has never been cleaned or changed. My truck has seriously been neglected. |
fuel injector cleaner always kills my gas mileage for a couple tanks once i use it
I was getting crappy SERIOUSLY crappy mpg and I used one of the large vehicle cleaners- the ones in the silver or gold, I used one about once a week for couple three weeks consistantly. The idea is after helping a mechanic friend do a "real" injecter cleaning I realised if in fact my injecters were seriously dirty one bottle once in a while wasnt gonna faze it. I have gone from 12-13mpg to right at 20mpg. Plus as I posted befor junk gas goes right thru my beast like Long John Silvers to me. I stick with BP or better quality gas. thats just my two cents.
