Fuel Line Fitting Removal
Fuel Line Fitting Removal
There seem to be several different types of fuel fittings, Ford calls them Quick connect. My mechanic had no problem with the ones on my fuel filter but when my Fuel Pressure regulated needed to be replaced none of his standard removal tools would work. He finally got the thing off and fortunately did not permanently damage the connector. I'll post a pic of the fitting, notice the "JGR" designation on top. Don't know if that's significant or not. Notice also there is very little room between the body of the FP Regulator and the fitting itself, barely a quarter inch I'd say.
My question is can anyone direct me to the proper removal tool for this connector? I'd like to have it handy should I ever need it again for this or another connection on my vehicle.

Seriously? No one has a clue what tool removes this "quick connect" fuel line fitting? Was this some kind of secret plot by Ford to stymie auto mechanics? Why is this one fitting different from all the others? I"ve bought tools from ebay and autozone that are supposed to work but don't. Weird that no one knows what tool to use on this.

I agree with Moist (what kind of username is that anyway? LOL). There *ARE* different sizes of the things. Attempted to remove the fuel filter (with the proper tool) on my son's 1999 XLT and for whatever reason, the damn thing would not release. Completely destroyed the connectors. I put it back old school with fuel line hose and stainless steel aircraft clamps. I detest these connectors.

There are three different quick disconnect types listed in my Haynes and none of them is the one on my Fuel pressure regulator. My Mechanic used to work for Ford and he'd never seen one like mine. He managed to finagle it off and install my FP Regulator and it works I just wanted to find a tool for future use. Looke all over ebay and they only have the standard ones.
Finally found the one I think will work on Rockauto.com, it's the only one that looks like it will fit. I won't know of course till I have to replace my FP Regulator again because I'm not gonna fool with it till then.
PERFORMANCE TOOL W80542 Ford Fuel Coupling Tool : 1990 and Up Ford Ranger with 4.0L 6 Cyl Engines.
Notice it says it's for 4.0L engines, mine is a 2.9 V6 but evidently there was some intermingling of connector types.
