Not trying to jack the thread here, but just curious how much it costs to re-gear?

I'm going to use my old 7.5 inch to practice regearing. i figure if i do it a fee times i'll be pretty good at it. then i have to do one with a Torsen in it.

Hey guys...normally I stick to TRS...and this is a thread jack (sorry..haha)...but I have 33's and I used to have 3.73's...switched to 4.56's. NO increase in mileage...if anything it got slightly worse. I'm kinda disappointed Driving style stayed the same. I have an OHV, but still...WTF!

And yes...regearing is alot of money...I thought I'd get some of that back in fuel savings...nope

With the OHV and 4.56 gears on 33s, I'm not surprised. The OHV does not like to rev, it would have been better suited to 4.10s in my opinion.
The SOHC is a much different monster, it needs revs, it likes to rev.

Still, re-gearing to improve fuel economy almost never pencils out. Spending $1200+ to possibly get 1-2mpg back doesn't make a lot of sense. Do it for performance, not MPG. If you pick up some mileage, great. If not, at least it moves better!

Yeah I think I will just get some 35's to lower the revs haha...Also I have no cat back currently so I'm thinking that that makes me lose some torque...it seems kinda pansy-ish around 2000. Anyways for sure I would do it again! The main point of regearing wasn't to get better MPG, just I hoped that would be a perk. I did some damage to my tranny having that combo, its way better on it now tho. It sure does move better...I forgot what acceleration was with 3.73's! haha

1300$ including them installing the gears, right? Cause otherwise expensive! I'm gonna try to get a shop to install the coilovers after they do the gears, it makes sense and also makes the lift reinstall much easier I would think.

$1300 is fair. It's not the best deal out there but certainly not the worst. A good gear install is worth paying for, to get it right the first time IMO.
