Ranger Bed Cover

Hey guys i'm new to the forum. I bought a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT yesterday!

I have a question. The ranger has bed rails along the side. I think they make it look pretty cool so I was wondering if they make a cover for the bed so I can have both the cover and the rails.

Just by looking at the pictures of bedcovers when shopping I just figured it would not fit properly.

Well thanks for any help! - Chris

A BakFlip cover might work.

are you talking about the raised plastic rails on top of the bed sides?

Hey I took a picture to maybe clear it up. It's dark and rainy outside so excuse the horrible pic. They are above the bedsides yes but they're not plastic.

Well i'm trying to save as much money as possible so I would assume a soft cover would be less expensive. So yah. I would like a soft cover.

Oh wow, ya that would definitely work. They're a little on the pricier side right? Nice find man.

Yeah, they are on the high end as far as price goes. I love mine, it is the one pictured. I no longer own the Ranger the cover was on so it is for sale, but I wouldn't want to ship something that large and heavy. Ever come to NM?

Ya I hear you, shipping would just be insane haha. Can't say I plan on going to NM anytime soon! Thanks a lot for the help though i'm going to keep searching and see if I can possibly find anything a little cheaper maybe 400 and under.

The BakFlip is pretty slick.. if I was going to get a new tonneau I would go with that one.. but ya, any kind of hard cover is not going to be cheap..

Check out www.extang.com they have a couple of soft covers that look like they may fit between the bed sides.

And just an FYI, I wouldn't recommend any of the cheap snap-style tonneau covers they really suck in cold winter weather.

Oh really? That's good to know.. I think i'm just going to take off the bed rails and buy a Tonneau cover.
Parts Bin - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - Tonneau Cover

The second one down for $356.15 is that considered a cheap one? I definitely don't want one that's going to go to **** during winter!

Thanks for your help

Well, the problem with the vinyl covers in winter is that they get stiff and shrink a bit, so the cheap rollup covers are really difficult to re-install if you open them up.
However, a soft cover with a folding metal frame works OK. For example, I have the Extang Trifecta and it works fine in cold weather.

I have a Access Literider roll-up cover and love it. It should work with your rails. I'm currently building rails, bedside covers and a headache rack and the cover will work with these. The cover works perfectly in hot or cold weather, but to be fair, we don't get too much of the extreme weather conditions in the Pacific Northwest.

i can vouch for the vinyl ones. i have a stock one with the rubber grooves and it's difficult to put on if i open it. i had it off for the last few weeks and even with 15* weather, (60* to you yanks) it was a little rough at the corners.

I love the roll-up cover, just roll it out of the way when you need more room! Don't think you can get this much room with a back-flip or a hard cover.

The covers made by Access attach with long velcro strips and will easily fit if the cover shrinks or stretches.

Thanks for all the help guys! Ya i'm looking at that Access roll-up cover. I'm pretty interested in it. So is there velcro strips with adhesive on one side and velcro on the other and you just put it along the bed side?

I found this one seems like an all right deal i'll keep shopping around see if it's cheaper anywhere else.

It comes with the girl too so that's a + when choosing which one I should buy

I'm pretty happy. I bought a new handle for my tailgate because the old one was broken and tailgate would not open properly.. So I got the new one on and WD40'd the latch mechanism and sides and put some white lithium grease on it all and it seems to be working good now hopefully does not jam back up!

The cover comes with two metal rails that clamp to the inside edges of the truck's bedside. The rails have the velcro along the top edges (on a 45 degree angle). You unroll the cover along the rails, latch the rear and then press the cover into the velcro strips.
You can roll it up or unroll it in two minutes.

ps, you probably can download the installation instructions in a pdf file.
