headlights lights flash when door is shut?

So i pull up like a badass into my parking spot.
I open the door and get out.
lock my truck using the button in the drivers door, then shut the door.

then

a fraction of a second after i close my door the headlights flash on then back off real quick.

alright, so i noticed my truck doing this a while ago. i had assumed it was the alarm that was installed.

i pulled the alarm out and it still happens.

whats the deal? is this something normal or do i have another alarm system of something hidden somewhere? my truck has electrical issues and just want to make sure this is supposed to be happening

ive asked everyone i know with rangers and no one else has noticed this

oh an my truck is a 2002

Yes. This is normal. Your tail lights do it too. Its just a security feature that lets you know the door is locked.

It sounds like the OP is using the switch on the door. My '03 doesn't do that unless I use my key fob to lock/unlock the door. If I use the switches on the inside of the door, nothing happens.

My escape does the same thing. Blinking lights and honking horn.Lets me know I locked the doors. Doesn't bother me. I only wish it was on our other cars.

Completely normal. Not sure if there is a way to disable it or not.

I know on my mom's 01 Malibu, you can go through this sequence of locks and unlocks to get different features to turn on and off.

i don't know if you mean the lock/unlock button or the lock pin thing. mine does it when you lock it before the door closes. i haven't tried it with the lock pin though

it doesnt matter. if you lock the doors with the door switch before you shut the door it flashes the marker lights to telll you the door is locked. if you had keyless entry it would do the same if you locked it with the key fob. also if locked with a key fob if you hit the lock two times quikly it will also honk the horn. its not an alarm system, just an indication or reminder that your doors are locked. im not sure what model years do it but you are describing exactly that.

My ranger doesn't have power locks so it doesn't do that, but my f150 does. If I lock the door, either with the remote or the door switch, before I close the door it will flash the lights.

And if you leave your door open and lock it till it honks the horn chirps twice.
