HID Headlights

Whos got HID Headlights on there Rangers, Im thinking about buying a single beam kit for now (if i like them ill buy dual beam).

If so, Where did you get them, or What Brand, and what Tempature Kelvin & color are teh lights when on

6000k
12000k

quest51210 07-25-2006 07:58 PM

6k is ok and 12k is well just a waste. 4300 is the best in light output.

DangaRanger99 07-25-2006 07:59 PM

why is 12k a waste?

quest51210 07-25-2006 08:03 PM

its like driving around with blacklight as your headlight. then in th rain they are more of a hazzard than help.

DangaRanger99 07-25-2006 08:04 PM

so 12k is like that annoying purple (i dont know anything about color wise i just know theres differe "k"'s)

quest51210 07-25-2006 08:09 PM

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/camerakh.php <thats a good example. look at the 4800-5500k and then look at the color change above 6500k

1200 K: a candle
2800 K: tungsten lamp (ordinary household bulb), sunrise and sunset
3000 K: studio lamps, photofloods,
5000 K: electronic flash, average daylight. A designation of D50 stands for "Daylight 5000K" and is the most common standard for professional light booths for photography, graphic arts, and other purposes.
6000 K: bright midday sun
7000 K: lightly overcast sky
8000 K: hazy sky
10,000 K: heavily overcast sky

quest51210 07-25-2006 08:11 PM

4000k-5500k are closest to natural daylight. if you want a little blue then 5500k-6500k would be a good choice. everything above that is a waste.

bwester04 07-25-2006 08:12 PM

Just know that it gets more blue up the scale..

GrafixGuy 07-25-2006 08:54 PM

the more blue the less visible BTW

HighRollerII 07-25-2006 09:36 PM

i got HIDs i got 8300 there a blueish tint my next set will be 6K which are pretty much white

MonsterGuy 07-25-2006 09:37 PM

have u tried the PIAA headlight's they might be expencive for bulbs but that have been worth it for me. i got a set w/diamond cut HL and upgraded wire harness and there awesome 10x brighter and whiter than i got with my silverstars that i tried first, seccond truck i have had them on and still the best, and i got a lot more distance i get a lot of flashes from other cars to.

the HID's do look cool tho

bwester04 07-25-2006 09:53 PM

which PIAA bulbs did you get?

MonsterGuy 07-26-2006 04:36 PM

i belive there the Extream white 4700k or might be 4500k and there very white and are awesome! u can get on ebay cheeper i belive do not get the platnums tho there to blue i have heard and cant see as much in the rain

bwester04 07-26-2006 04:52 PM

Cool, i currently have silverstars, how much brighter/whiter are the PIAA bulbs?

DangaRanger99 07-26-2006 05:44 PM

Well heres the thing, my buddys moving out west and he has 12k he wants to sell to me for $50....the box is still taped...there Hella transformers or w/e.

From what ive heard the 12k is purple, but i like the looks of it, but.....if i aint going to be able to see i dont CARE what they look like lol and i heard the HID's are big dollars

SHOman86 07-26-2006 05:46 PM

just depends on what HID kit you. you can buy the kit from him then just go buy new bulbs.

DangaRanger99 07-26-2006 05:49 PM

O i can?.....That would be sweet...From what ive been hearing the 12k is just about as useless as tits on a bull...

MonsterGuy 07-26-2006 07:40 PM

ya pretty much lol

r0ng5 07-26-2006 07:47 PM

damn... if you don't want it, i'm down to buy it from your friend.

DangaRanger99 07-26-2006 07:49 PM

I want them but i dont want to waste my money, i guess everyones got something against those pruple lights....

Then again, i want to be able to see too

HighRollerII 07-26-2006 08:07 PM

GrafixGuy 07-26-2006 08:20 PM

-thats just low beams the kit with high beams were like 400 something..but you dont need highs with HIDs

05RangerXLT 07-27-2006 05:15 AM

Evan your HID's look awesome. I don't know how the driving is with them, but they look really good at night!

winks 07-27-2006 07:25 AM

Just buy yourself a set of light tabs and Hella500 offroad lights and use them for your high beams. That'll only end up costing you at most $100 extra and you'll be covered.
