Hidden Hitch relocation help
Hidden Hitch relocation help
Not too beat a dead horse here, but what exactly am I grinding or cutting to bring my class 3 hidden hitch up below my bumper. She hangs low (barf). Is there a easy way? I don't have access to a welder.

Right on guys. The aux lights is a great idea. And yes, I heard about that but wasn't sure if it was possible. Thanks for sealing the deal buds! Well, I will try and see if it will work.

I had a regular hitch, and after the BL it hung way down. I actually cut the piece of the hitch off where it mounted, and welded it further down onto the hitch and used the existing mounting holes as templates.

I didn't cut my hitch, rather cut the spare tire carrier out and mounted it to the bottom of the top of the frame rails. I had to remove the bed to do it and it wasn't fun, but it works great. Nowadays I'd recommend either some fabwork to the hitch or buy the streetscene hitch from summit. It is meant to come out of the license plate on lowered trucks but will sit exactly where it should on a body lifted truck.

Its pretty much useless with a BL, since I would have to take the bumper off just to unwind the cable.
Would I have to take the bed off to cut it off? It would be one less thing to rattle.
Why would you have to take the bumper off to unwind the carrier? On my bumper, there is another factory hole behind the license plate. It works perfect for putting the rod through to lower the tire.

To get the hitch to fit you'd have to cut the carrier out and also do some cutting on the ends of the frame rails. Then you'll have to remember the rearmost bed bolts will interfere with the hitch mounting points so I had to drill new holes in the hitch for those to pass through. Its not ideal and its not easy. I don't see any way to do it without removing the bed. It took me a good 8 hours to do it.
Like I said, I'd either buy the streetscene hitch or do some work to your existing hitch.
Hey, everyone learns something new everyday. I saw the hole when I did my lift and I thought "hmm, maybe it would work." It does.
Hey I've been searching a bit for pics of of someone who has lights in the gap. No luck. I remember seeing someone had them when someone requested pictures of back-up lights but I can't remember where it's at.
^x2. True story.
