How can you tell what size gas tank you have?

Ok, I just filled the tank yesterday and completely forgot to see how many gallons went in it...is there another way of finding out what size tank i have, maybe a sticker or engraving in the tank itself?

Silver 03-19-2009 07:55 AM

standard cab should be 16gal

ChaosFromAbove 03-19-2009 08:20 AM

yea thats what I was thinking, wasn't 100% sure cause i read someone with an ext. cab saying they had a 16 gal so i was a bit confused...thus opening this thread.

Redneckstone 03-19-2009 08:24 AM

drain it and refill it ;)

mine has to be a 16 never put more then 15 gal in it...

my old 1993 reg cab was like a 14 or 15 never really got more then 13 in it..

ChaosFromAbove 03-19-2009 08:26 AM

if anything I'd wait til its at about half and fill it from there...lol...im just too impatient.

PUNKROCKPILOT 03-19-2009 08:31 AM

look in your owners manual.

Downey 03-19-2009 08:36 AM

do you know how much money you spent when you filled it up?

monkeysteeler12 03-19-2009 08:38 AM

dont mattet, prises are all over the place around the country.

ChaosFromAbove 03-19-2009 09:58 AM

yea it was 18 bucks...but im not sure how much it was per gallon...and prices like to raise and drop overnight like crazy around here.

crazymikey 03-19-2009 01:00 PM

A measuring tape works well. Do things the hard way and calculate volume using LxWxH lol

Do you know how inaccurate our fuel gauges are? I'd run it til the 'check gage' light turns on, fill it, take the numer it took to fill and add 2.5. that's a rought estimte on your tank size.

DrMacZed 03-19-2009 03:10 PM

As far as Know all "newer" I want to say '01 and up models have a 16 gallon tank regardless of whether or not they are supercab or regular cab. My '08 sport supercab has a 16 gallon tank, but my 96 xlt supercab had a 19 in it.

Nope. My 02 ext cab has 19.5 gal tank.
I agree with the previous posters that said check your owners manual.

98+ reg cab short bed 16gal
reg cab long bed 20gal
super cab only came \w short bed & are all 19.5gal

The reserve on our trucks vary from 1-5gals. I never saw a fuel light on my 98 reg.cab sb 16gal tank or my 00 super.cab 19.5gal tank but on my 03 fuel light usualy comes on @ 17-17.5gal. \w19.5gal tank on the 98 remember filling up \w 15-15.5 &the same for the 00 but 17.5-19

01 ranger 4x4 03-19-2009 08:56 PM

yea im not sure mine is suppossed to be 19 gal but ive never put more than 16 in it and that was after drive 2days with the light on wtf

robert99ranger 03-19-2009 09:00 PM

I fill up when the fuel light comes on. I usually only can put like 13 to 13.5 gallons in and thats after it has clicked off. So, I still have like 3 gallons left in the tank.

Rolldogg 03-20-2009 07:38 AM

I have a 74L (19.5gal) tank in my 01 supercab.

ChaosFromAbove 03-22-2009 09:15 PM

well i filled it at half while i was on the way to my gfs college and it came to about 7gal so im kinda guestimating that its a 15gal tank...and i get like 18.5 mpg (hgwy)...i need to try it again next weekend

I've looked in the manual, havn't seen anything about tank size

MemphisSenior 03-22-2009 09:38 PM

Look in the "maintenance and specifications" section of the owners manual.
It's usually near the end of that section under "refill capacities."
Short W.B. regular cab is 16.5 gals. Long W.B. regular cab is 20 gals.
