How to: Headlight mod request
How to: Headlight mod request
I'm seriously thinking about doing the headlight mod, but there's no real instructions on how to do so since GE went under. Can anyone put that how to on here with things like the best type of paint used and tape used etc. so i can do it. I'm gonna do red to match my truck so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here it is from my ftp, I gave all this to Jason, He should have them hosted on this site soon enough but here it is till then.
bada boom, ge is back

Thanks so much...Alot of people give bits and pieces as to how to do it, but this is exactly what i was looking for. I'm gettin lights off of ebay so if i screw up i can just trash em. I wasn't expecting to actually see the old GE page though...haha

Here are the steps i used.
1. type ebaymotors.com in your browser and hit go
2. search "ranger black headlights"
3. after finding the cheapest ones click "buy it now" and proceed to checkout
4. headlights arrive a week later for well under $100
5. sell the factory headlights on ebay to recoup some money
easy as pie lol
EDIT: I am an idiot since I didnt fully read your post to see that you wanted red ones. Sorry

I did mine just before fall/winter with snow/rain/freezing temps and with a good sealant they will NOT show any condensation inside
I dont see how its possible to screw them up. I had mine cracked open in 20 seconds after pulling them out of oven. just preheat oven on 250 put one in at a time for 8 minutes. i only used one screw driver but get a good grip wearing gloves. wedge it in there good and pull like hell. Tape off what you dont want painted with good painters tape (i prefer the green 3m stuff) scuff up with about 600gr paper. wipe off with windex and lay down a thin coat followed by 2 more wet coats. I prefer krylon fusion satin. They make it in red so your in luck..To seal it up properly remove all old silicone and put a nice thick new bead put together. face both pairs lens to lens and tie a ratchet strap around them to hold firmly in place. When they dry hit them one more time with another bead. Ranger lights are super easy. Also I painted over the smaller circle for the turn signal. It lights up bright as is and looks way better IMO..
