i realize that doug tunes each programmer to be vehicle specific, but does anyone know roughly how much the timing is advanced with a typical 3.0 ranger 91 performance tune?

im pretty sure he can adjust it how you want it all you have to do is ask.

i know that a while back he found a way to make the timing not change when the tranny shifts or some crazy thing like that.

Transmission calibration engineers have control of spark timing during shift events and back off the advance to make the shift smoother. This is what research says the average customer wants. Aftermarket tuners can shorten the shift, keep the advance in and juggle the pressures and shift points to give us what we want - an emphasis on performance over smoothness.

Sidenote: Doug, what happened to the forum on your site? Is there a how-to anywhere on customizing the files (obviously I'd save the original before editting)? And one more thing, when i open the file you programmed all the values are 0 (except gear ratio i think). How am i supposed to know where and how to adjust things? None of the 'Help' buttons seem to do anything btw.

mike, the problem youre having is more with SCTs software, ill assume youre still using extreme tune? Now they use a program called Live Load and all the adjustments are on the device, you may be able to upgrade your firmware to get the on-device options, but if you use Extreme Tune to edit the files then it will cancel out the on-device controls. I would talk to SCT directly about your software issues, they have their own forum on www.sctflash.com Also, if there is something specific to be changed, just let doug know, give him all your information again and let him know what youd like done, as long as you have a BamaChips tuner, he will continue to send you new files for free.

Doug doesnt have a forum on his site now because its too much for him to keep up with, and he doesnt want people to feel like he is ignoring them on there.

Thanks Bob.
One of the things I'm gonna change soon is to go back to 31s while i'm still making the long commute to work. That's changeable on the device I know, but I was gonna start looking into tuning the firmness of the shifting, etc. Oh and I wanted to change the rev-limiter (lower it some) but also found that is adjustable on the X2 itself.

Oh, question. When i go to load my 87 TQ prog, it asks if i want to custom any settings. i put yes and scrolled down to rev limit and made the changes. hit end i think and the select to save and then the screen goes blank. is it saving it or what? nothing is on the screen at this point. not even the % of progress, so i dont know if it freezes or if its loading or what. any ideas?

I think I see why you want to know this in your signature, nitrous right? I can write a program in which I retard the timing -1 degree for every 25hp shot of nitrous you are using. Now one thing I cannot ensure is the a/f ratio and I dont' guaruntee any nitrous tune for safety unless I dyntune it myself.

The timing adition to a 91 performance tune is great but if you want you can use the 87 performance program to run nitrous and this will do away with things like the speed limiter and I can raise the rev limiter more to your likings. The 87 tune doesn't do a whole like with the timing because it will ping if you add a lot.

Later Doug.

Mike, go to sctflash.com and download version 1.1 for your tuner, supposedly it has fixed the "blank screen of death" on the tuner. usually, that happens when a change you have made is already the setting that is on the tune, but the new version should fix that

doug... maybe you don't remember me... you just recently reprogrammed my blue 9100 tuner with a performance and nitrous tune, remember?

so i was more asking if you could tell me the specific timing changes that you made in my 91 performance tune, and my 91 nitrous tune. (for the nitrous tune, i requested timing retard by 2 degrees from 0-2k rpm, and by 1 degree from 2-4k rpm)

thanks!
