I might get a Ranger again, need help deciding

Any ideas comments or suggestions? My last Ranger was an 01 EDGE, so I don't know much about these newer Rangers....

And yes, I will be putting the SVT out to pasture... :439:

I can't directly link Fords page...

2006 Sonic Blue XLT

Hey, Chuck!

Just don't make any trips to Atlanta with your gun!

04lvl2 Dec 6, 2005 08:44 PM

Looks like a nice truck for ya, I guess the real question is what will you be doing with it?

dross93ranger Dec 6, 2005 08:47 PM

Hey Sally, I still miss her...had some good times in there, but really I won't need the big huge thing and 4x4 in sunny Florida... I mean, I like sports cars, but I like Rangers.

Chucks05EDGE Dec 7, 2005 07:07 AM

I just bought a house this summer, and now I know why homeowners have trucks :)

I need something that will do snow, drywall and Centralia....with style and decent gas mileage...

FYI, I get 26 MPG with my SVT, but I have to run 91+ octane, so a Ranger running 19 MPG on 87 octane would be cheaper....

Is the 4.0 still prone to timing chain noise?

blue03edge Dec 7, 2005 07:16 AM

Hey chuck you know my wheels would look really nice on that truck hahah , Drew

I think they got the timing chain sorted out for 03+ my 03 has had no problems with timing chain noise.

ryanrebel125 Dec 7, 2005 07:25 AM

That sounds about right to me. Ford is giving some pretty steep discounts on Ranger's these days.. (Either that or marking up the MSRP somethin' fierce!) FWIW: My LII had a list of ~$28k.. It left the lot for $19.5k before cash and trade.

In my experience 19 MPG in a 4x4 4.0L powered Ranger is possible, but not w/o some sacrafices. Driving 'normally' (which admittedly might qualify as a little agressive to some) nets me about 16-17 MPG most of the time.. So take that into account.

But I hear you on the home-owner bit. This fall seemed to be moving and/or home improvement season for nearly everyone I know. 3 out of 4 weekends in Sept and Oct I was going door to door from Boston to Southern Maine w/ an 8' utility trailer and a bed full of whatever. Can't imagine life w/o it..

That said, if you can swing two vehicles, how about a really cheap used 2WD. My '99 XL Sport came off the lot for $9500... four years later it was traded w/ ~50k miles on it for ~$4k.. I'm sure the dealer moved it for about the same. $4k for a beater for running to the lumber-yard ain't a bad deal..

RedRanger02 Dec 7, 2005 08:26 AM

what are you doing with the SVT? trade in.. or sell... i might be interested if the price is right.. :-) the wife needs a new car..

Fx4wannabe01 Dec 7, 2005 10:17 PM

HOLY S!!! Buy it for 16k!!! That's a good deal.

Chucks05EDGE Dec 8, 2005 05:43 AM

You don't want my SVT...I am trading it. I ran it into 3 feet of water(flash flood), and it has never been the same.
I put 35,000 on it since July 04, that's 100,000 miles for a normal driver. The focus probably has thousands of miles above 90MPH too.... :)

Redneckstone Dec 8, 2005 05:45 AM

in other words you acully drove it like it was designed too. it was ment to be beaten

ibanez270dx Dec 8, 2005 03:08 PM

personally, I would go for the ranger. I've looked around at other trucks before, but I don't like chevys and I can't fit in toyotas... I haven't driven the tundra, but I know I don't fit very well in the tacoma. I'm 5'11 and kinda bulky and I couldn't fit!

I think I can account for some of those miles when ya chased me in that Kmart lot ;)
