I need some Scan Gauge help
I got a new scan gauge and hooked it up to my mom's 02 Sebring. I tried clearing 3 codes and it would not clear them. So, the check engine light is still on. The are just EVAP codes with really all she needs is a new gas cap. I mean, I got this thing to turn codes off and it is not doing it. Could someone help me out?
Selecting CODES will make the display show the trouble code.
For example:
<P0440 CLEAR>
<PREVIOUS NEXT>
This example shows a trouble code of P0440. Since there were 2 stored trouble codes in this example, pressing NEXT will show the other trouble code.
<P0446 CLEAR>
<PREVIOUS NEXT>
Pressing NEXT again will not change the display because we are at the last trouble code. Pressing PREVIOUS will return the display to show the earlier trouble codes.
<P0440 CLEAR>
<PREVIOUS NEXT>
Pressing the CLEAR button will result in a prompt from the ScanGaugeII to verify that you want to clear the trouble code(s) and turn off the “Check Engine” lamp.
CLEAR CODES ???
<YES NO>
If you want to continue to clear the trouble codes, press YES. If you decide not to clear the trouble codes, press NO.
When the YES button is pressed, the ScanGaugeII will send out a signal to clear all of the trouble codes. If it is successful, the display will show:

Ok then what is the point of clearing codes if I have to fix it? I mean if they just come back on when you start the car then there is no point.
For her car, it is just the stupid gas cap. Car runs fine so I am not gonna get a new cap for it.

If I was to change my spark plugs and put wire 1 on wire 2 and I would throw a code.
If I use the scan gauge and clear the code the truck will then throw the code again when i start the truck. I have to FIX it by putting the wires on right. then clear the code.
You gonna have to break down and get a gas cap. it will continue to throw a code if you clear it, and it's not fixed. A gas cap only cost like $15.00
What is exactly wrong with the gas cap?

I do not know. When my mom took it in for something, they daid that the code was coming from a bad gas cap. I will just take one when I am at the junkyard next and put it in my pocket.
