Unfortunately, you cannot do it to 06+ emblems....because there isn't nothing to take apart........it's a solid molded piece with no clear cover to take off.

You can however, paint the entire emblem black, then when it dries, take a q-tip w/ laquer thinner to the raised parts(chrome oval and ford script) to get rid of the paint, but i've never seen it done to 06+ emblems. Grille emblem is the same way. You do risk ruining a $22-30 emblem if you mess up.

Ty...

It's all adhesive with alignment pins. Fishing line and heat gun do the trick.

John...

05 and older, yes. I believe there's a how-to over at RPS? But who knows about that place...it's always down and not working. lol.

Believe you need to take a heat gun to the front of the emblem to loosen up the clear hardplastic cover, then use an exacto knife to take the cover off. Then, sand the backside of the cover to get rid of the blue paint, then paint whatever color you wish. The ford script is incase in that clear cover.

Here's Casper98's truck with red modded emblems....

Best way to get the paint off the back? Sand paper or paint thinner?

I'm a big believer in wet sanding for a perfect, beautiful surface. Wait for Billy to chim in...i think he's the only one on RF that's done it.

Ross...re-read the thread...

If the clear cover is a gel, this mod is a no go. if its hard, it's a go. Take your fingernail to the cover to try and make an imprint, if you can, it's gel, if it's not, it's hard.

A LONG time ago I made and sold some...long like Gen-Edge long time.

The trick is to get the faceplate off (this is for older ones) I used to use a razor, then fishing line under the faceplate to cut the adhesive. Wet sand the back to take off the blue, then repaint. It was a real PITA, but they did look pretty cool...

Not the best pics I know, sorry. I did mine back in '06 then re-did the front about 2 months ago.

This is where I got the how-to:

well, that works for the "gel" emblems. Mine are the hard plastic 2- piece emblems. Different process. Mine are the, apparently, pop apart, sand down, paint, glue back together.

I tried to do this this morning, but couldn't get the plastic cover off. got a few scratches on it now. Think I'll wait till I hit the JY again, and get a few emblems from there to try it on.
