What kind of MPG do you single cab 2wd 4 banger ranger owners get?

Some days, not all, I drive my truck for work. I usually drive 60 miles round trip. The mileage my ranger gets is terrible. I've been thinking about picking up a base model reg cab ranger to DD and keep the mileage down on the ranger. And eventually it'll pay for itself in gas savings.

Other days, when I need to tow the trailer I drive an 01 cummins for work. Not cheap to drive lol. And it's not mine, so it isn't at my disposal whenever I want. A little beater ranger would make a nice work/dgaf what happens to it truck.

Just curious on what kind of MPG's you guys get?

Thanks.

I get between 16.5-17.5 city driving and I have gotten 31 freeway driving.

I mostly do city driving so my mileage isn't that great, but not too bad...I used to have a Silverado that was horrible on gas, the Ranger is much better.

My old truck was a 2.5L single cab. I never did calculate the fuel mileage, but I do know that it was high. Higher than my current truck. I would estimate in the high 20's on the interstate from my days driving it. And I also drive a Cummins for work! A HUGE one haha. I love diesels.

I'm averaging 21-23 MPG (50/50 driving) out of my 2.5 auto long bed with 132k on the clock.

I have a new Duratec 2.3L.I recently went on a trip to where I'm from. Before the return trip I topped the tank off.It took 7.2 gallons to drive 199 miles,so that's 27 mpg.I drove 75 to 85 MPH for about ninety minutes then climbed mountain after mountain.I think if I hypermilled a little and went the speed limit,I could get 29-30MPG(on that particular trip).

get a little honda prelude or some sport car with good mpg, maybe an eclipse GS-T?? Then you get best of both worlds.

Plus single cab 2wd rangers are grosssss and look so lowered. No offense intended for the lil ranger drivers

I like my lil ranger just fine as is. If I wanted a bigger truck, I'd buy one. I don't want a bigger truck. I don't want it lifted. I don't want over-sized tires. I'm perfectly happy with the stock height, as it's easy for me to get in and out of. I don't want to squeeze into a little sh11box car, and don't want to have to climb into a big truck, both are hard on my back. My lil Ranger is perfect for me.

i drive a 01' 2.5L and have 31's with a 3 inch lift and i reguarly get 21-22 mpgs on my daily trips to work or where ever. if i had stock wheels i'd most likely get somewhere in the range of the high 20's.

Got it for the woman. She drives it for work. I drive it sometimes when she's off. I just can't stand driving in cars. Too low. Nobody makes room for you in traffic like they do in my truck lol.

You didn't intend to offend people when you said their trucks look "grosssss?"

I am curious. Precisely what was your intention, if it was not to offend?

I've keep track of every drop of gas put in my truck, averaging 25+ mpg. Best so far 30, worst 21. Keeping track with Road Trip app for the iPhone.

with my 2.0 liima, i get around 20 mpg... that number is deceptive, as i drive 80 mph on the interstate... if i slowed down, i would get around 25...

Its all stock, about 19 to and from work all stop and go city driving and the last fill up on a tank to tank on the highway was 30 mpg, 5 mph over the speed limit with no extra weight (winter sand bags) in the bed.

When my truck was completely stock, the best I ever saw was 24 mpg. I averaged usually around 21 mpg.
Thats my 2.5L manual with 3.73 gears. Now I get like 15-16 mpg :(

Looks like some pretty good numbers. Like others have said, I can't stand small cars. The g6 is almost a midsize car, pretty big inside for what it is, and still bugs me. I couldn't imagine driving a little civic or some other econocrap car. A single cab ranger is about as small as I would go. lol

I've been getting 25-ish.

That said, the main road I live on is 10 miles long and has 3-4 lights and a speed limit of 60, then from there I do interstate driving so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Yep. Years ago they used to have a word for small cars. They were called "deathtraps". You don't hear that much anymore, but safety should be an issue when deciding what type of vehicle to purchase.

Uh, the Ranger is a cramped shitbox. No matter how high it gets, or how big of tires, that interior is a tough squeeze for two adults period for any extended amount of time.

I'll agree that my single cab has no room to store anything anywhere but I'm a pretty good sized guy and I used to drive from Nashville, TN to New Orleans, LA and from Nashville, TN to Houston, TX atleast once a week for awhile and I was always comfortable. It sucked not having cruise control though. My wife, at one point, had a Toyota Corolla and THAT was a very small, uncomfortable car to drive !

I'm a big guy and the Ranger is plenty big enough for me. I don't want a bigger truck because they are gas hogs and can be hard to park in tight places. My Ranger has been working out perfectly for me for 5 years now.

2010 2.3L Duratec. 25mpg on city and 29 on Highway, 235/75/15 Pirellis, suspension, and drivetrain stock.

2WD 4cil rangers maybe aren´t big, powerful or faster.... but damn, they do a pretty god mileage for a truck that can be so verstile.
