i used to want a jeep, but what fun is that. everyone and there mom has one.
instead, i want to find an older ranger, not sure which gen yet, but it needs to be as cheap as possibly. single cab. no power options. nothing. it will get an LS1 perhaps... SFA, fully caged, maybe a flat bed for storage of stuff...

once i get a house and a garage of my own, that will be my off road rig.
what do you guys think?

Not bad, but a SB Ford would be better.

I think its a great idea IF you can fab what you need. if not, expect to pay a whole lot for something you intend to tear up...then pay again when you tear it up..

This is kinda my dream too. I already have a 302 HO that I got for about $100. That is my Summer downtime project. Now I am looking for a 90/91 ext. cab 4x4 to fill my garage this winter. Don't get me wrong, I love my 03 FX4, but I need a DD, and I am kinda picky about how my truck looks, so the best plan for me is to get a rig that I can pound on and not cringe when it gets scratched.

Timeline? By next Summer, I hope.

Sorry to jack this thread...

it won't be as expensive as you're thinkin guys
and i like to set goals. even ones that are really far away. because if i dont have goals, i won't do my best to achieve what i want. if that makes any sense. this is just one of the few reasons i want to keep working hard in school, find a good job, get a place, and start doing this project.

and as for the fab work, well i'm learning a lot from people i know up here, and also, my dad is pretty talented lol. anything i can't do, he definitely can

i just think this would be a badass project.

How much is "won't be bad" for a used LS1? I know around here used LS1's are going for thousands.

But I say go for it. My goal is to have a mid 90's 2wd Ranger with a 302 in it.
