intermittent break issue
Hi guys. I recently purchased a 2007 ford ranger stx with the 2.3l rear wheel drive. I noticed the front pads were low so i purchased new pads. rotors and bearings for the front.
after installing the new parts i began the bedding procedure and quickly realized something is not right.
when i come to a stop or break aggressively i hear what sounds like metal on metal contact for a few seconds. it makes a "clunk clunk clunk" noise that is in direct relation to the speed of the wheel as it slows down.
When this occurs, the brake pedal has resistance. This will last for a few seconds until the car comes to a stop or i let off the brake pedal.
I double checked that the pads are in the correct orientation.
i cleaned the caliper shims with a wire brush and greased the channels.
I double checked that the caliper slide pins can move freely and are not seized.
i double checked the tightness of the wheel bearing.
Aside from hard braking situations it also seems to do this the first time i press the brake pedal after the truck sits.
My gut is telling me the caliper is to blame but the symptoms don't match up.
My other thought is that it might be abs related.
I hear the hum of what i believe to be the abs pump when the brakes are clunking.
any help or insight would be appreciated
