Joined the Hydrolock Club: one cylinder filled and presumed broken connecting rod

No pictures, sorry. It was a night trip.

I was helping a member of another board pull a motor yesterday down in MD and he said he'd show me where they wheel by the C & D Canal.

Messed around a little then started to head back. Hit about an 18" deep hole pretty hard and that was all she wrote. The story of how we got the truck out of there not running with only a stock B2 with street tires is an epic tale I'll recount later, lol. Happened around 9PM, I got it home on a flat-bed around 2AM.

Since I have hit deeper water harder, I'm presuming that the SAS has changed the way water flows around the front area. I've hit water all kinds of harder and deeper and never come close to this.

I won't be going back in any water without a snorkel now, need I tell you!

I don't have time for another "project", lol. It'll be as quick a repair/replacement as I can do.

Thanks for the condolences -- I'm really not that upset. I've always been prepared that it could happen.

Just happens that the motor is the only thing on the truck I haven't torn down in some way -- guess I get to "complete" my education on my truck!

Killing it with water in the intake hitting the MAF and hydrolocking are two different things, lol.

When I got it out of the water, I removed all 6 plugs and hit the starter and it wouldn't move and the lights dimmed awfully. Banged it a few times and it broke loose but as it spun with not compression you could hear something banging inside. Drying it out wouldn't have helped.

Sometimes you break something, sometimes you don't. In any case you have to remove the plugs to know. If you should get your truck running with water still in the intake another cylinder can fill and you can do damage that wasn't done in the first place.

Nice but I'd have to put a more modern computer and such in it. You have to pass OBD emissions in this area and I need something equivalent to my years setup.

And thanks for the sympathy all! It'll work out. It's only a matter of time and money.

Damn man, sorry about the water. Though it is a good excuse for a bigger engine. Just turn it into a project thread!

I've had some pretty serious tragedies in my life, lol. This just doesn't measure up. It amounts to a pain in the @ss is all.

Thanks, Gil! I think you and I are somewhat alike that way -- it just is what it is so deal with it, right?

I'm blessed to have a loaner in my daughters 1998 Ranger which is not driven these days. She drives a 2003 TJ that was my son-in-laws (it's been in my videos) and he has a new combination project truck/DD Cherokee so the Ranger sits.

I'll miss my truck though. I like driving it every day. Never had a vehicle quite like this before, lol.

The problem with the 4.0 is the tranny I just rebuilt isn't designed to take the torque. I'm pretty set in just replacing the 3.0. I can deal with an underpowered ride -- it just makes it more challenging.

Besides, if I get a big engine and start throwing the truck around, Gil won't have the opportunity to tell me I drive like an old man...I can't do that to him.
