I've seen a few diesel Rangers running around my area. There is one that has a flatbed on it and stacks. Its rather unimpressive.

The 85 should have the 2.3l Turbo model in it. I have one and it has good power and a lot of torque, will pull anything, runs out good.

i would trade the wife for a diesel ranger.... diesel period. been looking at some of the volvo and cummins engines we have around school and they all would fit nicely in place of my 4L.
