Las Cruces Police motorcycle vs Borman Autoplex Ford Ranger....

http://www.lcsun-news.com/news/ci_8818148

Kind of surprised by the damage seem in the ranger. Granted our [I work for the City, but not police] officer was en route to another accident, but the speeds posted for the 3 streets at that intersection are 35 and 30. This is assuming the ranger was driving posted speed and the patrol bike possibly doing over posted as a result of a accident called he was en route to.

I think this might be our 2nd officer involved in a bike-related accident in 6-9 months. If memory serves me right the other was an off-duty officer, on his personal motorcycle, that lost his life from that accident. I want to say he wasn't wearing a helmet though and that contributed to his fatal injuries. If I get another break from work I'll see if I research that old article to find out if he had a helmet on or not. Thankfully this recent officer is in stable condition.

That looks like a head-on collision and that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it happenrd. Judging by the damage to both vehicals that officer is lucky to be alive.

Unfortunately I was on-the-clock at the time and couldn't get down there.
