I looked at a 2006 super-cab with 5-speed manual that was advertised as a FX4. Sure enough, it has the decal on the back, but after doing some more looking, it seems to be missing some of the FX4 features.

The ford-site lists the following:

Limited-slip rear axle, black wheel-lip moldings, skid plates, premium shocks, step bars, 16-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, all-terrain tires, rear jump seats, tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel with speed control, power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry.

This truck has the wheel-lip moldings, rear jump seats, alloy wheels but is missing the cruise=control, keyless entry, rear-sliding window etc.

Question: Is there any way to definitively say whether this is an FX4 or is this a simply a basic Ranger wearing a decal?

I don't care about most of the features, the truck is clean, low miles and seems to run fine. The mis-match of features has me a little suspicious though.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Dunno if you could only get an FX4 from the factory with those specific options, or if you can order one special as you like. I assume you can order one as you like. The original owner might have wanted those specific options.

 

Some FX4's do exist with fewer options basically an XL, meaning basic interior, no power or cruise or leather steering wheel it only has the fx4 hard bits but none of the fancy interior comfort bits if that makes sense.
My truck is like this, its an 07 has virtually no options and even though it has 4.10s and a L/S, its the 28 spline 8.8 and not the 31 spline axle. Has the FX4 flares and two-tone paint job. Also has gas tank and tranny skid plates but no front skid.
Dealers could order trucks like this for folks who wanted all the good 4x4 stuff without having to spend the extra for the power packages that the customer might not want.

all 2006 fx4's were two tone, check the vin and do a carfax if it isnt..
