Looking to buy a boat... Whats the biggest you can tow with our trucks

Sorry to wake up a dead thread but im looking at getting a 23 foot robalo fishing boat thats about 2050 lbs dry. I think ill be ok towing it with the ranger. I'll have to go about 30-40 miles to drop it in the bay. Just want to ask around before i go screwing myself and cant haul it around and get it out of the water. I have the 4.0 4x4 xlt.

I have my 2wd 3.0 and i tow! lmao
My boats nowhere near the size or weight you guys are talking-just a 14' flat bottom lowe. I've never had an issue getting the boat out of the water on the ramps. and the ramp i use here in town is like a 40* slope.
I also tow a 14' enclosed with 2 quads in the trailer and one in the bed roughly 2600 pounds and it goes just fine.
I do have 4.10 but gas sucks bad as mentioned. and I have a felling i'll be doing another slave and new clutch in the near future haha but oh well.

It's been a while since I was here so an update is due: I bought an 1985 17' Galaxy Bowrider with a 140HP I/O back at Memorial Day. Its one trip into the sound revealed a rotten transom. Anyhow, I snatched that boat with a significant amount of water on board out of the sound with my 2007 2 WD 3 liter auto Ranger XLT as if nothing was back there. In fact, that was the only thing which went well that day. FWIW, it was a concrete ramp and I had to wet my back tires (hubs stayed dry) to get the boat to float off and back on the trailer (crappy ramp at low tide).
Since that time, I've been whipping the boat back into shape with a new transom and numerous improvements to the trailer. I have high hopes it'll keep the ocean out the next time I try it in the spring.
BTW, I found that the ScanGauge has the capability of reading transmission temperature, so that's one of my gauge displays. Riding down the road at 45 MPH in the winter may show 127°F-135°F with nothing behind the truck; pulling the boat in the summer heat maxes out at 165°F-170°F at 55 MPH. That is with a transmission cooler installed. Slower speeds give lower temps.
Since that time, I've been whipping the boat back into shape with a new transom and numerous improvements to the trailer. I have high hopes it'll keep the ocean out the next time I try it in the spring.

yea the tranny temp on the scan gauge is a great thing to have i towed for a 1 1/2 hours on the hottest day last summer and my tranny temp stayed around 200 doing 65 with a head index of 110 i also have the cooler installed.

I towed my 1800 Lund Fisherman, with an opti 150 with the jeep wrangler, i think my Ranger can handle it. heck, one time i needed to move the boat and used my 500ho quad, granted i onlu needed to move it 100 ft or so, and the wife had to sit on the front rack, but i moved it where i needed it. (man i wish i had pics of that)

2001 ford ranger 4.0 with a good brake system!
I only pulled it 2 miles but they were very hilly.
I would not recommend using a ranger for this kind of hauling; not because it cannot pull it, but because it cannot stop it. I launched this boat and had to set my emergency brake while backing it in just to stop without my front wheels locking up.
