Looking for info on 2007 Sport

We bought a 2007 2-wd Ranger Sport last summer from a used car dealer, The Carfax info said it had been a fleet truck in western US, but that was as specific as it got, I did find a Jack in the Box receipt from Arizona inside the fuse box. I'm wondering about a few things, though.

First, the radio is not in the owner's manual. I found two pictures in the thread about radio bezels that match it, and both said they were in 2002 models. Ours has the fog light switch as a pull-up on the headlight switch, though.

Second, the truck has a rubber floor mat. I actually prefer it to a carpet, but it seems more basic than the model would seem to call for.

Third, The wheels appear to be gray-painted steel, but they have seven-spoke chrome covers that match the wheel spokes closely enough that it's easy to think they're chrome wheels.

And finally, it has an extended cab but only two doors, I was given the impression that the Sport came with at least one rear-hinged door to the rear of the cab, but the source may not be reliable,

Could this have been part of some kind of special fleet order? Thanks for any info anyone has.

well, i have a 07 ranger sport, and i have 4 door , 2 normal and 2 suicide.it is weird because sport normally all came with 4 door in 07? does it says sport on the registration? mine does have fllor rubber mats two.Mine cames with with chrome 15 inch wheel, pretty nice, not painted steel. and my owner manual contain some info and pictures about the radio.this is strange . can you post some pictures? and look at my truck and tell me if yours look like mine...it should be identical.... and about only two door i have never seen this on a sport model in o7 and up... i could be wrong but im pretty sure they only made 4 door

ps, sorry my english is not the best lol

you had the option of either a 2 or 4 door supercab sport in 07 and those wheels are how they came from the factory my grandpas 98 is the same way...it just has chrome caps on the wheels...the vinyl floor is standard in the sport and carpet is an option...IIRC the sport replaced the edge

Your English is fine. Much better than my French, I'm sure!

I thought I could find a way to enlarge your picture, but what I found was only a little larger. Still, your truck looks very much like ours. I couldn't see the fenders well enough to tell, but ours has flairs that appear to be fastened with individual Allen head screws. Also, the word "sport" near the rear is in all caps, italicized block letters. I've seen others on which the letters are more script like, and, if I remember correctly, lower case.

I just now took a few pictures and will try to figure out how to post them. I intended to get it all cleaned up before pictures, as we're in "mud" season here, but for now dirty will have to do. I didn't think to take one of the radio, though. Maybe later.

The title says only Ford Ranger Pickup, and the registration doesn't even say Ranger. Not much help there.

Sorry I took so long to get back to this. We've been away.

Thanks for the information. I think that pretty well covers it except for the radio.

I posted some pictures in the reply to Cedrik. Do they look correct to you?

Thanks.

I guess Ford had to drop the EDGE name on the Ranger because they started making the EDGE SUV.

like said, sport was 2 door or 4 door. i have a two door 4x4 so my rims are different but a lot of the 2wd sports came with the rims you had. vinyl floor is standard. i haz that to. as for the radio. in 2007 ford made an auxillary input STANDARD on radios from the factory. i had the basic radio in mine and it was a flat face type radio with flat black colors. no shinyness or rounded buttons, if the radio in your truck does not have a button that says aux, then its not an 07+ radio. there should also be a aux jack where the old airbag shut off switch was below the radio on the cubby near the floor. it looks like a head phone jack.. you can plug a 3.5 mm cord in to that and to a device such as an ipod and play it through the speakers. do you have a picture of your radio?

I'm adding a picture of the radio that's in there. I found pictures similar to it identified as being from a 2002 Ranger. We looked all over for the jack you described, wanting to use it for a satellite radio. It's just not there.

Is there supposed to be a passenger air bag shutoff? I can't find it in the owner's manual

that looks like an 07 radio and the passenger airbag cutoff was made automatic in 06 i believe...theres a weight sensor in the pass seat...before then there was a key activated switch by the ashtray

When I had my 07, there was an auxiliary input in this location as well.
These are from my 2007, I had an aftermarket radio and put that green switch (for aux lights) where the aux input was

It has seventy some-odd thousand miles on it. It was just over seventy when we bought it last summer, and I tried to talk the guy's price down a bit because of it - unsuccessfully. It seems completely solid, though, and has no rust. We had sold our '97 Mazda B2300 and had been looking for a replacement for a while. This was the first suitable truck we found with a standard transmission. Of over thirty vehicles we've owned over the past forty-eight years, only three had automatic transmissions, and two of those were trouble. If I continue to drive much longer, though, I may have to give in. It's getting more and more difficult to find standards.

The 2007 radio certainly looks quite a lot like ours. Ours has a tape player and no AUX button, but otherwise pretty similar.

Is the aux light switch for the center lights in your avatar picture? I've heard that extra front bumper called a kangaroo catcher, but whatever you call it, it looks great.

its worth noting perhaps that mine is an XLT which might have been different a little.

Thanks for the information.

Everyone else, too. I'm not sure I responded to each post, but I appreciate them.

The last year that a Dual Media CD/cassette like this was available in a Ranger was 2006. If you need any operating information about it, you can access an online 2006 O/M by clicking the link in my signature.

the aux jack would be where the airbag on off switch would be on previous model years. by that little cubby. if your radio looks like that one then im guessing you dont have one for some reason

I noticed you have your CB radio in the same place I put mine, and I meant to ask about your wiring and antenna. I wired mine into the fuse pannel near the floor on the passenger side using one of those circuit doublers they have at Auto Zone. Normally I put a two-pole flat connector in the line so I can easily remove the radio, but I haven't done that as yet. My antenna is a magnet mount with a fairly long thin mast - probably 4 1/2 feet.

On my first Ranger (a 1984), I drilled a hole inside the dome light for a roof mount, and I did the same on my previous truck, a 1969 GMC. I haven't seen any of those roof mount antennas in years and have wondered why. Of course, getting under the headliner in newer cars and trucks is quite a bit more of a challenge than it used to be.

Come to think of it, I believe the lights in both trucks were at the rear of the cab and it was a 1967 VW that gave me room inside the dome light. Not sure any more.

Thanks, Bob. I'll do that. I ought to check the door post to see whether it was built in 2006. Sometimes early models don't have all the changes. It's even possible the title is wrong, I suppose.

The truth is that we haven't used anything but the FM so far, and I don't even know for sure that the CD or tape player works. One of my sons used to have a gadget that fit into a tape player and other things could be plugged into it. I've thought of looking for something like that but haven't thought of it when we're in town.

You can verify model year by checking the Certification Label on the driver door/jamb and the Emission Label under the hood. The Cert Label will also give the build date.

In a fleet situation, it's more likely that the radio was swapped truck to truck than the factory misbuilt it with the previous year's parts.

It occurred to me that whoever was assigned the truck had a stack of tapes he liked and traded radios with someone.

Thanks again for directions to the manual. I downloaded it to a thumb drive and printed the pages for our radio. On a recent trip my wife had quite a time finding and holding an NPR station using the scan button. Menu would have worked better, but we didn't know that.
