Lower rear door latch, HELP!!!!
Lower rear door latch, HELP!!!!
Ok I'm a fairly experienced back yard bolt breaker, with that said I'm a bit stuck on what to do. My son, 16 and his first vehicle, bought an 01 ranger, 4 door, with a 4.0, 2wd stepside. I have been showing him the ins and outs of the joys of vehicle repair. He's not a dummy, just young, he's been taking automotive classes in high school now for two years and learning a bit. We are both stuck though. His drivers side rear door lower latch is completely siezed. We have replaced the passenger. Had to drill the rivets and manually pull the cables due to the notorious rubberish ends. Not so easy on the drivers side. We cant even open the door due to the lower latch being completely and utterly siezed. I have tried pb blaster, tapping on it with a screw driver and hammer, even buzzing it a little with the air chizzle on the lowest setting. All in an effort to break rust loose from the mechanism. Nothing seemes to be working. I even used a step bit and drilled a bigger hole in the panel to get better access and still can't get the dang thing to release so we can open the door. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm almost to the point where I want to just cut the section of door it's bolted to off and weld it back on. So dang frustrated.
You could try a propane torch and get it smoking hot and buzz on it again. I started having this issue until I pulled the stupid door plugs out so they could drain. I'm surprised that it's so bad you can't get it to unfreeze enough to get it open. That sucks. Good luck and really hope you don't have to cut it up.
