In a simple search in the Ranger Electrical Forum with the single word "switch", as the keyword, I find this...

You mean something like this for an OEM Switch?

Yes you use term 3, 4, 5, and 6 (as above) on the switch. I oupted to use this cir to control the main light relay rather than direct power to the lights, but either diagram will work just fine.

You can tap term 5 off the the other switch.

I think what Rev is saying is that you'd use terminals 3,4, 5, and 6 the same as the diagram. However the diagram only shows three. I'd just use a 3 pronged switch from the auto store......

The pic above or the link swoop posted (Electric diagram). Its easy to do. Just run a jumper from term 5 of the current switch to term 5 of the new switch. Then run a ground to term 4 of the new switch. Then run term 86 from the relay to term 3 of the new switch. And then run a tap off the relay term 30 to the new switch term 6.

As stated above, there are 4 wires to the switch with color codes as shown below. Be sure to use adequate wire gauge for the load and correctly sized fuses to protect all circuits.

Get a Bosch pattern automotive relay, either SPDT or SPST. These are available at any auto parts store for about $3~$10. You can get a good quality one from the Ford dealer for about $7 - just ask for the heater blower motor relay.

The original tan/orange is designed to handle the amp draw from two 45W foglamp bulbs. If you are going to power high wattage, off road lights, it will be too much for the fuse and wiring. It will definitely be too much if try to run the factory foglamps and aux lights together from the tan/orange. Also, unless you do the foglamp mod, the circuit will be hot only with the low beams, not high beams.

Did you splice into any of the radio wires trying to find power? If so I would find another source. It shouldn't cause any poping, but may be caused by the relay spiking. I add a diode across the coil term on all my relays.

You can see them in this diagram on each relay (note they are polarity sensitive...Power must be on term 85 and ground on term 86 for relay coil).
