mod quality lacking.

I've done so many different mods.. then un-modded some of it.

I was reading ZABeards thread and looking at the quality or ' attention to detail ' work hes doing. Its VERY clean and might look close to factory ( even though its not ). Ive seen Rwenzings truck and others.. all look clean.

Its sad when one has a built motor and is afraid to pop the hood and show people cause theres wires all over the place, electric tape, things mounted out in the open..

I'm just curious as to how many other folks have done some mods and now think ' Damn.. I should have done this cleaner' or ' I should have taken my time and made this look nicer when I did it '.

all my mods on my bronco2 were like that... i guess my only excuse is i was a stupid high school kid and didnt know any better... now if im gonna do a mod to my truck i want to do it right the first time

buzzair 02-12-2007 10:26 PM

The first time I did my e-fan it was real clean. When I did the replacement it was messy and still is. My arm rests are faded...should have used a different technique for painting them. Other than that I'm happy with my the cleanliness of my mods.

I unmodded my mods earlier today.. it sucks when you can take everything off in like 2 hrs when it took you many hours total to install everything!

But yeah everything was clean and tucked away, underneath and in the engine bay I had wires zip tied to stuff so it wasnt flopping around

Yes, I need to start over.

I have some mods that were "amatuer" so to speak. They weren't wired how I'd like them to be, etc

Fx4wannabe01 02-12-2007 11:15 PM

Some of my mods were "i'm sick of this and tired, get it done". But almost all my mods are nicely done. Currently pulling out all my dixie horn wiring and aux light wiring for the time being. All my LED mods and done to a T, nice perfect and clean. Heck, working 72hrs a week, i havn't been able to throw my dash back together since putting in my overlays. I got the headlite switch hangin and stuff. gotta love it.

Biz 02-12-2007 11:18 PM

yeah i wish i woulda done my 60/40 mod better =/

NicksterSVT 02-12-2007 11:37 PM

umm... im not sure where to start on mine...

mikerider 02-12-2007 11:46 PM

i started this way with my daylighters, i started out with wires everywere and they ran down the fender gap and my witch was in the glove box, ie. very poorly done. then i fixed it and ran wire loom over the wire and sent the wire through the firewall. then added a nice switch in my dash and it now looks close to factory. the moral is just becuse it works dosent mean it cant be improved and cleaned up. good luck D and get that engine ship shape!

blkb3 02-12-2007 11:49 PM

My alarm/remote start install was my 1st and I know everything is right but I just wish I would have routed and gathered all the wires differantly. everytime I have to dig into my dash I see that mess and want to cry.

Sad_Savant 02-13-2007 12:01 AM

i'm in the same boat myself!

that was one of my new year's resolutions was to fix my mods, and make them look better and cleaner...

ya know, just to elaborate on this a bit i'll post up some of the problems i'm gonna be fixing...maybe some of you guys have already done the fixes and will post your suggestions...

after i did my gauge swap from black to white face gauges, i've noticed that at night alot of the light from below is peeking out...i know that i just need to press the needles down a bit further on this one...

my center console is only bolted down in the front...i couldn't think of anywhere else to mount my cb so i cut a section out of the bottom of it and mounted the cb to the floor below it...so i have to either come up with somewhere new to mount the cb or a new way to secure the console to the floor in the rear...

Gearhead61 02-13-2007 12:42 AM

Some of my EATC wiring and OHC wiring through the engine bay to the sensors could be better I think... I took extra care to try and get all my wiring for the system in nice and tidy. I keep telling myself I'm going to go in and fix all the wires under the dash for the OHC and EATC, but I don't know if I'll ever have the patience to do that again.

On my Saumurai I rednecked the hell out of it! My SHO is going to all be done right and when I start doing more to my truck

RHuckster 02-13-2007 01:15 AM

My motto is if you can't do it right don't do it @ all. Thats why I haven't wired any of my lights yet because I want to make sure I have the time to do it right.
We do the wire loom better than the factory does but I guess thats not saying much.

No Sh1t. I pulled my dash out to check if there was any space for another tap onto a 12vdc line I ran for just ' dashboard stuff '. I think Griggs said ' Theres more taps in my dashboard then the FBI has on a NYC Mosque '.. His description isn't too far off from what I was looking at.

Its a bloody rats nest with all sorts of taps for gauges, overlays, Cathodes, Neons, LED's, radar in.. nevermind.. Then the engine compartment with solonoids, window switches, hobbs switches, an MSD relay setup.. It just doesn;t end.

I *want* to clean it all up.. but.. Its not worth the time? I mean it ' works ' so why ' break it '?

x 2!!!!

your truck is definitely above the bar man!!! looks great!

JoshK 02-13-2007 02:38 AM

Umm not too much on my truck. Zabeard helps me out alot when I mod so he knows alot of tricks on how to mod stuff.

Last thing is the snorkel on my King quad. Its hard to do and it looks kinda gay . I finally got it all done then I though of a cleaner way to do it. But I don't feel like going threw 3 hours more of work to fix it
