Yesterday I went to drop off a load of hard wood flooring and other stuff for my work. It was me my friend Chris in a dumb Chevy with a whole pallet + of hardwood flooring and a role of linoleum sp to make a long story short the springs were maxed out with a little more than there should have been and there was another guy an installer with a 2003 4x4 4.0L extended cab ranger yes. He had a utility trailer with all the stuff I listed above and tools the trailer was maxed to and he had a full bed of tools. We get to the job site and me and Chris barley back up this steep driveway we unload and the other gay backs his ranger with the trailer and all that crap up the hill. the engine was a little hot when he was done but it was the most incredible thing I had ever seen a ranger do. Later he told us like a year ago he would pull and launch his 28foot boat with that truck. He told us people would take pics because it was so incredible. I LOVE RANGERS

I used to tow a 17' out-board motor boat w/ my '99 XL Sport (2.5L I4, stick). People would do about the same thing-take pictures of my little truck yanking that boat around. I actually got turned away at a private launch one time because the owner was convinced I'd never get the boat out of the water at the end of the day.. Getting power down on particularly steep, wet ramps was sometimes a challange, but she always got the boat out and home. (I had the stock, Firestone HT all-season tires.) I was always very happy w/ the way that truck handled a load.

And to be perfectly honest, I thought it rode a helluva lot better fully loaded like that. Sure, 5th was entirely optional, and 3rd was required occasionally on steep hills, but she did it all and didn't give me any greif.

Of course the new truck (4.0L V6, stick) tows even better. And 4Lo just kicks *** when yanking a boat out of the water..


Although what really blows people's mind is when I tell them that before I bought the truck I would tow that same boat (and more!) w/ my '86 VW Jetta (1.8L I4, stick).. Before the VW was mine I was witness to one afternoon where the previous owner (my mother) pushed an '84 Buick Century (3.0L V6, auto) up a rather large hill.. using the bumper!

its a 24' Fiberglass Pontoon with a 90 horse.
fully loaded and ready to go the boat weighs a little over 4500lbs.
Tows without a problem, and launches with ease..

whats REALLY amazing is watching an overload 1977 E350 with a 460 tow a 26ft 8in seayray cabin cruiser with a 454...... the old 26footers, befor they started counting the swim platform into the footage,..... . would pull that thing all over the place without a prob.... and, the truck itself, was 4,000lbs over weight, and it never gave any trouble.... tho dad did replace the rear springs with super heavy duty springs 2x.

I used to pull my 23' Century with it's own 454 in the engine bay with an 82 Grand Wagoneer
the old style woodie - short wheel base makes tight manuvering with the trailer a breeze
the beast would hop the front wheels all the time because it was full time 4x4
talk about great gas mileage... OK maybe not

OH and LIL BLUE may get the chance to tow my Bertram
twin V6 engines - 26' long with a 10' beam - weighs in with out fuel at about 7500 pounds
it would be less than 2 mile trip from the ramp to my house..... we shall see

 

Honestly I dont think this guy has anything to do other than to agrue and pick at people. It may just be me, but it seems like all he does is B____ & moan about it if he doesn't like or agree with it

 

If I tried to lauch a BOAT I'm sure the truck would roll into water, I will never buy 4 cyl again thats for sure

 

i had pulled 6800lbs of stone on a trailer before about 15 miles.

honestly i didnt think it was that much, but when they weighed me in at the gravel pit i about freaked out when it was 6800lbs heavier than when i pulled in.

but i will never do that agian. my tranny is shot. 33s + trailer laoded with 6800lbs = BAD!
