Most Reliable Engine?

I am in the middle of looking at a 1998 Ranger, 4 WD shortbed, and my brother recalled to have heard problems or issues with this model or year of a ranger, if so are their any specific issues and what are your suggestions? Thanks alot!

the pulse vacuum hub system isnt very dependable and can be replaced with manual hubs made only by AVM/Rugged Ridge

all motors are good for 98, the 3.0 and 4.0 are your only options for 4x4 for this year

Go for it. Put some manual hubs on it and run it. Look at redneckstone's and Toreador4x4's (posted above me) trucks. I wish I would have kept my 99 and put some Alcoas and BFG's on it. Killer.

you might have trans issues tho. either late 90s or early 2ks were known for some tranny issues.

go big or go home. 4.0L

4.0 OHVs are very reliable. I've got 169,000 on mine and it still runs strong.

If were posting pics of our gen then I'm in hehe:
