Mounting Explorer OHC

I have a 2006 Ranger ext cab, how hard is to install an OHC from a Explorer, what year would fit? Is there much modifications that need to be done ? Also I want a light in the glove box to come on when I open it, is there something that I can achieve this with? I'm not very creative so any help is appreciated. One more thing, if I install the OHC will the light fade off slowly after I shut the door, is this standard for the explorer map lights?

OHC not terribly hard if you are mechanically inclined. If not don't give it a shot. I would not recommend this mod for a beginner. YOu could really end up butchering your headliner.

I think there were some posts before about the OHC not working on the newer model Rangers because of the VSS being changed? I would double check on that before attempting this install.

As for the OHC turning off... I don't even remember if mine fades off or not.

my recommendation is to not give up, but try to find more ranger enthusiasts in your area and have a "Mod Day"

that's what me and Soccerjohn did with his truck

I was a little worried when I did mine. After deciding where the mounting bracket went, I cut the headline a little smaller and it worked out OK. Just remember, you can always cut out a little more. You can't put any back.

[Measured one and cut it twice and it's still too small]

The OHC light gets tied into the dome light, and so both lights go on and off in the same fashion.

I like my OHC, but if I had to do it all over again, I would get the rear view mirror upgrade from the Ford accessories catalog that has the auto dim and the thermometer/compass in the corner of the mirror. We got one in our '07 Mariner and it will work on any newer Ford vehicle. Just a more tidy solution but it's not cheap.
