mounting my new toolbox? help.

I just picked up a Kobalt mid sized truck toolbox from lowes this morning for $155, wanted the low pro one but im tight on cash and couldnt afford it so i just bought the regular one, im still happy with it, although i got it home and i found no mounting hardware for the damn thing only two strips of this stirefoam type stuff? How do you mount this bad boy up? do i got to drill holes in my bed? :261:

I drilled 2 holes in the box because that was acceptable for it to be able to get a warranty in the future, used J hooks and it caught the lip of the bed and no need for holes in the truck.

sick j hooks are the things you put bycicle hooks up on your garage to hang them correct?

they are like them but definetley not what your thinking of they are similar though its like a straight j just like that letter not with the bends like you are thinking of and they also have to be fined thread so you can put a bolt on them

where can i get 2 of those.. hardware store? i see what your saying.. i wish these things came with a mounting kit already..

madripor 07-14-2008 11:38 AM

Here read up on this, its what he is talking about

As for me when i install mine i'm going to use square "U" bolts to do mine.

kyle12201 07-14-2008 11:53 AM

sweet that is helpfull thank you, me and my dad will take a look at it later tonight and see what ill have to pick up at the hardware store tommorow thanks again

Bumpncarstereo 07-14-2008 11:58 AM

i did 4 j bolts on mine personally.

Dangerranger98 07-14-2008 12:08 PM

I bought my toolbox from lowes and they had kits sitting right next to the boxes that don't require you to drill into your bed.

Brit-ranger 07-14-2008 12:11 PM

Mine's bolted to the bed rails.

kyle12201 07-14-2008 12:16 PM

how long did it take for you guys to mount it up? doesnt look too hard, also how much do j bolts usually cost at the hardware store .. hell im thinking i might just head back to lowes and pick up a mounting kit which is what i should have done in the first place..

Get the Grip-Rite thing from Lowes, should be right beside the toolboxes!

This is what you want right here, your box is designed to use it:

madripor 07-14-2008 12:56 PM

Shouldnt take you more than a half hr to mount it, if that long.

J bolts should probably run you no more than 3.00 a bolt (if you get stainless steel) cheaper if you get non special metal. (keep in mind i'm going by costs in my area)

Line it up where you want it, mark where your going to drill the holes in your tool box for the J hooks to go through, remove it, drill, put back up, and bolt it on. Done.

kyle12201 07-14-2008 12:56 PM

yep thats exactly what i was looking at im going to go pick one up tommorow, once i get that all i have to do is drill holes in the box and get comes bolts right? thanks alot

04blackedge 07-14-2008 01:09 PM

Nope no holes, no bolts. You see on the edges of your toolbox theres 4 little slots? You put the bolts that are included with the Grip Rite thru those holes, using washers into the Grip Rite. So all you need to mount it is the Grip Rite and your good to go!

kyle12201 07-14-2008 01:18 PM

just checked again and saw no slots on the edges of the box that you mentioned.. lol :(

Fx4wannabe01 07-14-2008 01:19 PM

My old box came with two j hooks......but I used 4 total. Its okay if you bend the rail a little bit....the rail lip is an easy fix, just bend it back if you pull the box out.

My new box, I use 6 3/8 bolts though the rail for the headache rack and tool box.

guess im just going to have to drill 4 holes is all

04blackedge 07-14-2008 01:29 PM

Weird, I guess your stuck to J-hooks then, I don't know how the work tho lol.

kyle12201 07-14-2008 01:30 PM

couldnt i just get the grip rite mount kit for it since its made for my box aswell and just drill the holes myself and get some bolts from the hardware store and bolt it up? Looks like a simple "fix"

04blackedge 07-14-2008 01:31 PM

Oh yeah definitely, it comes with bolts so all you need to do is drill the holes.

kyle12201 07-14-2008 01:33 PM

oh yeah i forgot haha sick man im going to go pick that thing up tommorow, in the meantime going to go cut that piece off my front bumper, pics of that to come! :)
