Muffler fight!!

Not really, but now that you're here.

I've been wanting to add a good aftermarket muffler to the Ranger and not sure which one to get. The mufflers I'm looking at are Flowmaster, Magnaflow, and Borla mufflers. I've heard good things and not so good things about some of them. I've been checking them out on Youtube and just don't know. Is there one that doesn't sound so ricey at higher rpms?

I'm not sure how to setup a poll. But I would like to know what muffler you guys like best and why. Throw in some comparisons to other mufflers if you've got em.

Thanks.

i have no preference on any of them. i just took out my stock exhaust then rewelded it up right in front of the tire. so i have a straight out from the cats. i think it sounds good.

Flowmaster for deepness/sound
Magnaflow for sound/performance

i had a flowmaster, but it was obnoxious esecially over 3000 rpm's.

i replaced it with a dynomax super turbo cat back setup. cost me about 163 from summit, idles deep and quiet but you can hear it when you get on it and it doesnt sound like a civic.

With the Magnaflows, is there any big differences, sound or performance, between then the round and oval muffs other then size? Any particular model you guys with Magnaflows would suggest?

I know running just a new muffler isn't going to do much performance-wise, but you get the idea.

personally I like my Magnaflow, and wouldn't put straights on a V6... my friend put straights on his Ranger (3.0) and I don't think it sounds to good, way too ricey at high rpms, but that's just me.

I have a Accelerator on mine and it sounds pretty good it quiets down in overdrive at 60 and at 70-75 it isnt that loud you can still talk in the cab without yelling. I have the cats and a single in dual out with 2.25 inch pipes with 3 inch tips exiting at the corners of the bumper

Best magnaflow videos I've found so far:

3.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMuSOb4wkoQ

4.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_erPQ...eature=related

I'd post some for Flowmaster, but I just can't get over that horrible fart-can sound when you rev it. I love them at idle but that's about it from the stuff I've seen.

My Super 44 doesn't sound fart-can at all, even on my 3.0. I need to get a video of it sometime.

I plan on running either the magnaflows or the CB Vortex muffler.. But if i did run a flow it would definitely be the 40 series delta flow.

Please do.

I've seen Shane's and other people's videos and they sound good up until they start reving it up. Maybe if I heard one in perosn it would change my opinion.

From my experience, out of the mufflers i had on my 2000; The flow 40 series dumped si/so sounded less raspy, a 40 series dumped si/do was deeper sounding, and the Borla ProXS si/do was the best mixture, nice deepness at idle, quieter when crusing- but when you got on it, it really woke up (Not raspy at all, had a deep mellow sound). Not to mention I noticed a slight better throttle response from the borla. I've heard really good things about magnaflow as well, but if you are wanting more sound, my vote goes for the Borla. Are you wanting to run "dual exhaust" or any tips at all?

I'm planning on running it out before the rear passenger tire, maybe to a slashed dual tip. Not really sure yet.

I wouldn't run a flowmaster straight out of the muffler, at least put some turndowns on it. It drones like crazy without them.

I have magnaflow, and love it. It is not drony or annoying, it doesnt sound bad at high rpms. I can barely hear it inside the cab.

You do realize that my vid had no turndowns what so ever right? just straight out the muff...so soundwaves bouncing everywhere.

clanking around in my vid, you can hear the turndowns clanking on my floor board. i put em on later that evening. and its quiet inside. add tailpipes out the back and my vid would sound completely differnet inside the cab.

every muff i'd had on my truck would sound like junk with revvved up there. it's a given thing...it's a damn v6! it's gonna sound half way rice, and half way beefy. lol.
