XLT vs. FX4

On the 06-07 models I looked quite a bit at this issue when I was shopping. I actually waned a XLT vs a FX4 to begin with.
The XLTs had chrome vs painted trim, carpet vs rubber floor, carpeted mats vs rubber mud mats, no skid plates vs skid plates, softer spring rates, *I think* shocks were different, tranny cooler, gears and LS standard, and depending on what you ordered some other items would change.
Basicly the FX4 is better equipped and is made for the occosional off roading.
btw there are two things I thought I wanted in the XLT but am now glad I did'nt get.
1) I didn't think I'd like the rubber floor and rubber mud mats. However now having lived through one winter with them I'm so glad I have them! I like it much better than I thought I would.
2) Stiffer suspension. It makes the truck handle noticably better and the increased harshness isn't much. Even on these horrendous SE Michigan roads.

In addition to what you mentioned, with the 2007 Level II you get a black interior with color inserts in cloth seats (all black leather optional), plastic floor covering, body color grille, bright tow hooks, Shadow Grey two tone paint and fender flares, jump seats (optional on XLT and FX4). I am not sure if the chrome shifter is still offered though.
Content varies from year to year. The things I listed only apply to 2006 and 2007 models.

My XLT value package was about 18,000 after all fees. However, no power windows, no power door locks, no skid plates, 2dr supercab, no jump seats. I have done quite a bit of work to it to make it as good as a regular XLT without spending the money.
The only thing I wish my truck had RIGHT now is the skid plates and the limited slip rear differential.

Also, side note: 02 and 03 Level 2's come with a manual transfer case!

02 fx4 and 03 LII had the OPTION of a manual transfercase only with a manual transmission
Bob would have a field day with this thread. =]

I can list off most of them but I'm lazy =]
The FX4(excluding the 02) is basically the former '4x4 Offroad' Package. Standard L/S, two skids(tranny and t-case), everything the XLT has(privacy glass, fogs, power everything, etc.), standard 4.10's, standard 8.8(28spl)
The 02 FX4 and the 03+ FX4 Level II's have the stainless steel tow hook, optional rear tow hook(in place of hitch), front skid plate, Torsen Clutchless L/S, Factory extended breathers, 02 and 03 models had optional manual tcase, color inserts on seats, 31 spline 8.8
That's all my tired brain can think of at the moment

My 04 valu pkg came with leather steering wheel, pwr windows and locks.
I wish I had 4 doors tho. and a LS. other than that, im ok, infact, if I could possibly get a LS id be pretty happy.
i added the fog lights, the skid plates, the bug shield, the tint, the hitch my self. tho extending the breather tubes... hmmm maybe ill do that today. I dont really feel like doing much, since im so stressed out at the moment. I was gonna play in the mud, but, i dont wanna deal with the traffic.
So, i walked off the lot at 17,500... and I have about $3,000 extra into my truck... not too shabby i geuss.
