My Ranger Hates Water

So yesterday i blasted through a deep puddle on my street and the battery light came on... didn't think anything of it till i went to turn and i couldn't.. well i could but the belt flew off and the PS pump wasn't being powered wow it was hard. I shut it off right away and put it back on. Then i'm driving to class and the thing will refused to hold idle. I get to class pop my air box and pour out the box it was filled to the top with water. The MAF was soaked probably why it was wanting to die. The Oil is not white or different looking it looks and feels fine.

*Also tested my 4wd on dry pavement and the wheels were grabbing and i heard a very loud bang. was it because i was on pavement that was dry

idk whats less believable the part that a puddle on the road filled your air box to the top with water, or the fact it ran while it was filled to the top with water with out draining back out and then ran with out sucking any of the water that completely filled the airbox

Vehicles aren't part fish, of course they hate water.

LOL. Wow, harsh guys.

When you say "filled," did you mean part of the bottom half of the airbox held water? That is believable.

Why it won't hold idle? Your IAC and MAF could both still be wet. Spray both with carb cleaner, let dry, reinstall. Change your filter. Most of us consider "deep puddles" as being 2' or higher. There isn't a lot of water on the street like that, even after it rains.

Do you have plastic inner fenders?

It could also idle funny if you don't have a working alternator, too. :-) They sometimes share the same belt.

As far as the "bang," it could be anything. As a general rule, you shouldn't "gun it" in 4Lo on dry pavement.

Use MAF cleaner for the MAF sensor. Do not use carb cleaner, you'll kill it.

My Ranger swims with the fish everyday at 5pm. Then goes to the gym for a quick workout and flex for the ladies.

4wd isnt made for dry pavement in the first place so that loud bang could have just been something binding up or just your cv axle is starting to go
