From: Coal Region, MTC to be exact...heart of the coal region.
IIRC it'll work in any 95 and newer ranger or exploder...not sure if it'll work in the 97+ f-150s/expys/SDs/etc...

A reman would cost at least $215 from Ford. Probably not unreasonable to expect $100-150 if its in good condition.

It will work in all 97-04 Rangers (except tremor,) all 04 and older Sport Tracs (except adrenalin and pioneer systems) and all 97-01 Explorers/Mountaineers. With minor modifications it will work in most 97-03 Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis. It will work in some 97-03 F150s but I couldn't even start to break down which ones.

There are always a few oddballs in the first year and last year of a run, so there are, for example, some early-build 05 Rangers that will use the 97-03 radios, but most won't.

itll work as long as they dont have that din sized radio and no premium sound systems itll work in early year ford as long as they have that din and a half radio and they clips on the side. That wiring harness can be adapted

Harness adapters exist, but aren't readily available to the common man, without paying pumped up "car audio install store" prices. Most times its more efficient to just get a radio that fits right without modification.

Some other caveats are SUVs and vans with factory rear-seat entertainment (VCRs and DVD players.) These generally require a SPECIFIC radio for those features to work, and thusfar in my experience there is no cross-model interchange that works for these. At LEAST once a month I have to explain to someone that the used Expedition/Explorer/Excursion/Windstar they just bought has the wrong radio in it, and that its never going to work, and the only way I can help them is to sell them the right part at Ford cost, usually around $600-800. The end result is almost always an unhappy customer, except in the occasions where the used car seller gave them a written promise to have the problem fixed (assuming the radio only needed to be repaired/exchanged at a cost less than half that.)

Right, F250s and superduties of the pre-05 variety (can't recall offhand what year that style started.. 98 maybe?) also can use that radio, as well as most Windstar/Freestar vans, (except as explained above, those with factory rear-seat entertainment, and even in that case the radio will work fine, but the DVD/VCR will NOT play through the vehicle speakers.)

98-01 Expeditions will work except those with premium sound (if it has a subwoofer in the back, its premium)

It should be obvious, but I guess it bears mentioning that if you use one of these radios in a newer vehicle, even if it works, the base warranty on the radio is void, even if the radio came out of a vehicle that still had warranty as well.

Putting it in ship mode won't do much of anything without the immobilization brace Ford uses to ship them.

I have a few spares laying out that I could send out, though.

Some of the newer CD6s don't use the brace, however. I'm not sure what changed internally that Ford discontinued its use.
