need help

When I bought my Ranger, it only had one key. So I ordered a normal key blank and a switchblade style key:

YouTube - White Slide Key

The ignition "cup" is preventing the whole key blade to enter the ignition. Has anyone removed this "cup"? I need to remove the cup to use the above key.

i'm pretty sure that key is meant only for "lockout" situations, to open the door... it's not meant to be used in the ignition (nor do i think it'd last very long in that application!)

Yeah you can remove the cup. A lot of guys use the Fusion keys with the built in fobs, have to cut the cup off to use those too.

It's actually got a chip inside, so it can be used for the ignition also.

It's not THE sturdiest thing, but as long as I don't abuse it, I don't think it'll break.

So I've gotta CUT it off, huh? It looks as though I can slip it off or something, but I'm not willing to take the whole column off just to check it.

ok... I finally cut my ignition cup. I still need to sand down the edges and clean up the dust. It works BEAUTIFULLY!!!

Here's pics of the key. I'm waiting for the company to send me the right chip to put inside. Otherwise it works great.

AWESOME company to deal with. I've had to call them twice, and talked to Nick both times. GREAT guy. Both calls were short and got the job done. :)

I looked, and it looks like it's a part of the ignition. I didn't wanna chance it. Plus, the two edges I kept add some stability when I turn any key. It should look much better when I sand everything down to smooth it all out.

Found a video on YouTube of an actual key being used... not CGI.
