No ****..How does that work, how does an auto shift on a manuel...Do you shift like a column shifter or what??

The transmission is a regular auto that you shift on the column. The transfer case has a shifter on the floor to shift into 4wd instead of a switch on the dash.
So the only difference is the you shift the t-case not the motor so its a lot more reliable.

Your transmission and transfer case are independant of each other. That's why the levers and/or electonic controllers for each are independant as well.
Mines an 06. I can switch into 4wd or 2wd by flipping a switch reguardless of what my speed is or what gear I'm in. However to go into 4 low the computer won't allow the t-case to change unless I'm sitting dead still and in neutral.

I will see if I can find you one in a yard near me. They have all kinds of Gen 1 Explorers that are manual transmission, but no manual transfer cases.

Pretty much exactly what Rich said. I'm guessing your thinking that the T-Case and the Transmission are 1 in the same. They are 2 independent functioning units that can either be manual or automatic. So essentially your transmission can just be going through the standard gears it has and output to the T-Case.
The t-case can then either send output through normal operation to the back wheels (2HI), to both differentials (4HI), or through some more gearing and then to both differentials (4LO).

Well if you have a 4x4 truck already, it would simply be a matter of swapping the current T-Case you have for a Manual T-Case. They aren't the easiest things to find, but they are around. I think there are a couple write-ups on the swap floating around somewhere (but at this moment I'm drawing a blank on where that write up is).
It all depends on your needs. If you street your truck and only see mild to no off road, then the electric transfer case would be best for you and not cost effective to swap. If you see good amounts of off roading, then a manual t-case would be your best bet.
The electric shift t-cases are not bad, but the motors do not like water or abuse from constant shifting.

A manual is way more reliable. I already fired the shift computer and switch in my truck. If it wasn't under warranty then i would have been expensive.
I def would like the convienve of a another stick in the cab..>!! i have an auto!!lol
I hate power anything, manuel will ALWAYS last longer...I wish i had a manuel transmission and t-case....Hopefully ill have the means and money to swap out a manuel trans when my auto goes out (knock on wood)...
So all you need to do is switch the T-case and add an extension from that to into the cab??? I know its not easy..

Not a shifter extension but the actual housing at the end of the transmission. There are different for the electric or manual shift case. The manual has two raised pieces that the shifter linkage bolt too.
Ok. I remember someone saying that but I wasn't sure. Time to look at the autos.
