New diesel trucks !!!

Very interesting addition around 2009 to the USA truck market. Im not sure if it has been posted before but the search button is broken on my pc haha. Well here it is. Initial figures show 180hp, 300tq.

http://www.gv-usa.com/vehicle-info.php

http://www.gv-usa.com/Press/Truck%20...2128992&page=1

didnt poke around for a price, but rumors have it that it will be less than 20k.

not the best looking but I think it will be a hit.

Only problem I see with those, is the fact its an Indian design. Parts would be a pain in the *** to get, considering theres probably only 1 or 2 dealer-hubs in the US that could fly them out to you.

If they are at the 2008 NAIAS I'll post a report.

I'm not really one to take a hard stand against a free market... Buying a vehicle COMPLETELY developed and made from outside of this country, is not good for your fellow American worker/taxpayer. Buying from cheap sources abraud will only serve to un-employ more and more here.

We in the auto market cannot compete with them. And it's because we are not allowed to play by the same rules. If our government would level the playing field we Americans would kick but everytime.

I have seen these trucks in person and I was very impressed. I will be buying one to support a family member who bought a franchise. There are currently about 15 other dealers signed up to sell those things currently.

Isnt india right up there with china in terms of vehicle safety/reliability?

I saw a couple crash tests of indian made vehicles, and the only thing that DIDNT explode was the airbag canistor.

And whats with the quotes?

"best car of the year" -India

"best SUV of the year" -India

Isnt that like being employee of the month at a turd factory? Who gives a **** o.O

I would like to see these trucks and suv's come here only to see if compact and mid size diesel vehicles will really sell. If the GV vehicles do sell then i would expect to see the US automakers offer something in diesel as well.

Not my thread so I refuse to argue about it. Call me what you will, but I will have a small size four door pickup with a diesel. Thats all I care about. I'm as American as American can get but when a good product comes along, who gives a rats *** who makes it. No American Automaker offers what me and millions of other people want (including many on this site) which is a small 4-door diesel pickup. So with that being said, if no one else will offer one I will buy what suits MY needs. Call me what you will. But let me tell you one thing, I drive what suits my needs and wants, its not my problem Ford or anyone else for that matter sucks at what they do and cannot offer what I'm looking for.

Oh yeah and I just read the update, apparently 200 other dealers will think its a hit as well. Look in the press releases on Mahindra's link posted above up above in the original post under the dealers heading:
"Global Vehicles U.S.A., Inc. will have dealership agreements with over 300 dealers by the anticipated launch date. Our 200+ current dealers include market leaders in sales volume and customer satisfaction.

Each member of the Mahindra dealership network must meet the stringent standards of Global Vehicles and demonstrate their strong commitment to being part of the Mahindra story in the United States."

For years the Ranger crowd has been asking for a true design upgrade, and maybe a even a desiel engine option to go along with it. Instead what we got was news that Ford is dropping the platform altogether. So if some other company wants to try and fill that niche, I don't have a problem with that. I would prefer that it be a 100%-owned US company, but if that's not the case, so be it.

That being said, that truck shown in the links is ugly and right now I wouldn't drive a vehicle built in China or India even if you were to pay me. I'd have to see a solid track record of at least 8-10 years here in the US and Canada before I could even try and pass judgment on it.

I'd try it out, at least it isn't Japanese. Like someone said earlier this will get our American companies out there cranking mini disesel trucks out.

Anyone else notice the Oldsmobile'ish emblem they use?

I try to buy American as much as possible. I must say I am disappointed with my '06 Ranger. 2 slave cylinders in 10 months a new clutch and drive. I have mechanical door locks. They finally replaced the pins and reprogrammed the keys. The passenger side works fine but the driver side will not unlock on cold mornings. I am tired of the service people saying they couldn't get it to happen at 3:00 in the after when the doors are unlock, duh. The service manager said he called Ford and they said there is nothing in there that could go wrong. Let me see, design by humans, machine cut that humans programmed, installed by humans. What part can't go wrong.
Sure they suggested paying $100 to have remotes put in. If the mechanical parts aren't working right all that will do is make the motor on the remotes work harder and wear out so they can say I need to pay for replacement in a couple of years. Sorry, mechanical door locks do not require a degree in rocket science.
As soon as I break even it's back to Chevrolet.

Does anyone else think the dealers jumping on this are looking at the possible profit? From Americans that rather save a dollar than buy American? Also how well will the parts be available when they have another uprising or the like in 3 or 4 weeks? How many of the parts will be made by children? What will they do with the toxic waste? Have their own Love Canal?

Try getting together to direct the American builders to make a diesel. Of course they have to look back at diesels like the ones in the '88 Olds. O.o
Plus most people have no clue how to properly drive a diesel. A friend drives a VW Rabbit diesel and it has a zillion miles on it and very few problems. Of course he starts it up and delivers pizzas all day and shuts it off at the end of the day. Diesels are not made to go to the corner store and back for smokes. This leads to the American buyer complaining about how crappy the vehicle is but they don't tell anyone they never let the motor warm up, they never put anti-gel in the fuel and they bought the cheapest diesel they could find.

I have seen the preliminary tests of these trucks in GA when I went with my family members who are investing money to help spread this brand in the US. They are awesome trucks with stump pulling power and the 4-door truck is no larger than a Sport Trac. But does your daddy's Sport Trac get 28-35mpg? NO! Does your Ranger get that and have 4 people COMFORTABLY in it? I didnt think so. These trucks will sell themselves in the states when they come over here. And if they don't so be it, I will be buying one.

Starting price will be in the $20,000 range as announced at the last franchise meeting is a KILLER price point for a 300lb-ft. turbo diesel.

Exactly. If Ford sold the 4-door Ranger here I would buy one of those instead.

If ford did a lot of things different my family would still own a Ford Dealership but with times like they are, it was about working the long hours to lose money by the end of the day. If US automakers would make cars that people actually wanted, things would be a lot different right now. Not just for my family but others as well.

Think how many Americans have lost their jobs in the last 5 years due to US Automakers attempting to cut costs all the while they are still LOSING Billions of dollars a year. Something's gotta give. I believe that if a new manufacturer wants to take a stab at the tough market here in the states so be it. Who knows, maybe their US Importer will become a manufacturing site some day for all North American operations of Mahindra. Ever think about that? Did the immature "greygooseranger" ever think about how many jobs will be created by them coming to the US?

Think about this, an average dealership requires at least 10 technicians, 5 sales people, sales manager, and a few in a detail department. With over 200 dealerships already signed up to sell these trucks that's AT LEAST 2,000 more jobs created. Sure you could try to sell Mahindra beside another make but it just wouldn't make sense. Sure they could be on the same grounds but a separate building from another manufacturer would be better.

Then what's to think if they take off. They would then see it fit to produce in the US just as Toyota, Honda, Kia and numerous other "foreign" car makers have. It takes numerous workers to man a factory. Mahindra could some day employ many of the liad off and fired workers from the failing "Big 3". But then again, I like to look at the big picture before jumping to conclusions, rather than immature and hate everything that doesnt say "Made in USA" on it. But wake up. The big 3 are trying to sell vehicles in other countries as well. How American are these companies now? Sounds to me like the "big 3" are fighting for world domination just as every other big corporation out there.

I guess you should never buy a Fusion, you will see "Made in Mexico" I rest my case.

Read here if you don't believe me: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...7071_mz058.htm

Awesome Ford closed down 5 plants to keep this one running. There's a company that supports the American people.

Yes, but at least it was designed in the U.S. and many components are sourced from U.S. companies. Whereas the Mahindra is 100% designed and sourced overseas.
