New member- seeks fishing wagon advice
My '78 Jimmy PU is on its last leg and I've settled on a Ranger as a replacement. I'd like to have: An extended cab so I can lock my stuff up; a 4-wheel drive since I'm getting too old for digging and pushing; and a manual transmission. I hate to buy a new pickup since catfishermen are known to haul bait that stinks to high heaven, and drive through some spots that would scrape the hide off a 20-year-old mule.
So what's my best bet? A Ranger a couple of years old that still has a warranty, or get an older model and hope for the luck of the draw. Are there any year and engine options that I should avoid--or that you would reccomend? Any feedback will be appreciated.

01 and up have a 4 door option that the rear door swings out. Makes it real nice and easy to get in.
If you want an engine that will NEVER die.. EVER. Get the 3.0. No, it wont be fast, but it will never ever ever ever die. look for about 20 mpg with stock tire size.
If you can find an FX4 Level II they have twin sticks, manual Transfer case and Transmission. But they are rare, and spendy.

All of these are within 200 miles of your zip code. Good luck
