New Old Truck......
well i just stumbled ive been looking for for awhile and couldnt pass it up, its an 87 reg cab long bed with the ol 2.9 5 speed with 174000 glorious miles, imo its in amazing shape for what it is, engine needs a refresher still debating whether to pull it out and re-build or maybe swap but im not to worried about that yet, i am however looking for a good place to get some parts cause im having a tuff time finding stuff like a new shifter and engine parts, any help would be greatly appreciated, ill get some pics tommorrow

its hard to say honestly, i mean the sounds its making is hard to determine cause there are alot of factors like a slight knock under acceleration but take into consideration its sat for two years with the same gas so who knows, ill see if i can make it feel any better with some new oil after some seafoam and whatever else i can find.......worse comes to worse i find a 5.0 which wold just suck.......and im really loooking more towards aftermarket stuff cause it has all the original stuff minus the rims and its getting worn out so time to upgrade to better stuff, although im going to snag a d35/8.8 from some unlucky junkyard creature

My guess, and purely only a guess.
It's kinda tired, and like you said, had been sitting for a while. If it's only making the noise under acceleration, it's probably more like the famous engine ping. I did everything in the book, but went after replacing the MAF, the ping went away.
If it's making a knocking type of noise while idling, I'd say it's a sticky lifter. I used Restore on my truck, and the lifter "tick""tap""knock", whatever you want to call it, went away.
