Was at the dealer today and they want almost $100 for the key and coding. Is there a better place to go or am I stuck with them doing the programming?

If you currently have 2 working PATS keys, you can program for a 3rd one yourself. If you have 0 or 1 PATS key, you will need the help of a dealer or locksmith. Shop around - prices vary.

yeah, I have just the one key. It works fine in the ignition, but is a little tricky on the doors. Wanted to have a key cut from the computer records of ford and not another copy of a copy. Guess I will just have to add that into stuff I did not plan on. As a side question, how do you use 2 to program a third? I have seen keys on ebay and such, once I have 2 how do I use them? Is it like channeling the force and needing 2 jedi masters to teach the padowan?

"Basically, you tell the PATS, "This is a good key, you like this key, this key is your friend."

this had me rolling!

Your Ford dealer should have a tool that can be used to cut the key from the code in the VIN records on OASIS.

Here's where you can get 2 genuine Ford keys for a 99~00 for $25 shipped. I bought some from this guy and they are the best deal anywhere. Of course, you still need to have 2 working PATS keys before you can add these yourself.

Thanks for all the info, but geesh, what a pain in the neck !!!!

Just as bad as usb dongles !!!!!

It sounds like something else to go wrong that would cost an arm and a leg to fix. What about the electronics that disables the starter, I'll bet that would cost a pretty penny to get fixed if it goes out. geeessshhhh.....

Job security, planned obsolescence, but much better than using

"The Club "

Remember "The Club " ?? That thing that attaches to your steering wheel to prevent theft ?? hehehehehe I saw somebody who actually had one on their car the other day.....hehehehehe..........
