New and thinking of buying a 2002 XLT

here's a link to the truck on ebay I live close by the dealer so if I purchase it won't be through ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...209555236&rd=1

What kind of things should I look for? The milage seems high but I plan on starting lower on the price also the windshield looks as though it was blasted by something about a foot square around the rear view mirror and will need to be replaced. I also don't want to be paying a fortune for gas I think this has the 3.0 v6. I'm going to test drive it friday. Thanks for any help.

Check to see if it has been wrecked. It does have the 3.0. It looks like it's in pretty good condition.

I looks like it's in great condition... just the mileage is high... be sure to check under the hood and look underneath at all the body panels to make sure nothing looks like it's out of place

wow, its hard to find anything near you..
found this about 100 miles away

and this one..

The only problems are the distance and the fact it is a little dealership selling them, but if you are going to buy a truck find one you like, not just because it is down the road..

No prob

Drive it. Kick the tires. Make sure all the lights work. Make sure all the bells and whistles work. Bring a cd to play. Look for rust. Look for anything leaking. Listen for any grinding sounds as you turn the steering wheel. Make sure the brakes work. Look for any signs of leaking in the cab. Make sure the gauges work. While the engine is on listen for anything odd and check the exhaust for carbon build up. Check the belt. Check the air filter. Look for moisture in the headlights and taillights. Watch someone else drive it and see if it leans too much... list goes on..

I assumed if you change your own plugs you’d know what to look for.. might be a good deal, but the high miles and big dent by the drivers side taillight are not promising..

3.0 = 3.SLOW

Judging by your myspace you have a honda civic and a scooter.. so even with a 4banger ranger your not going to be happy in terms of MPG..

That's all stuff you should know if you're looking for any car, depends on how meticulous you want to be about or what your plans may be...

Just don't come on this forum with a sh!ty attitude like yours mkjeld76.

I second that. You work under the hood so I figured you knew what to look for. I don't buy anything over 100K but that's just personal preference 'cause I don't like **** to break the **** down! Check every nook and cranny, that's for sure. Don't be rushed, don't be intimidated, and most importantly DON'T BE AFRAID TO WALK AWAY! A Ranger is a dime a dozen... there will always be another one so make sure this one has the features you have. Don't sacrifice anything 'cause it's easy to find one that fits what you're looking for, just have to have patience.

Welcome to R-F.

Just a little insight for you.

If you buy that truck, odds are you will regret it.

I don't think there is anyone on here that has a 3.0 and is happy with it after driving a 4.0. the MPG is the practically the same and the performance is very noticable. If you hang around here long enough you will end up modifying it, probably for offroad use and then you will wish you had bought a 4x4.

If you are on a tight budget and mpg is a consideration, then don't consider a truck. If you need the space then get a 4 cyl.

Just what I was looking for, I'm just looking to replace my 82 toyota pickup bought new and a 91 Acura Legend. Use would be to haul stuff every once in while maybe pull a small popup camper and for wife to use to drive to work. Not into 4 wheeling just highway driving. Thanks everyone for the input.
