Alright guys,

I have been looking into a new (newer) truck for a long time now. I found a 2000 F150 lariat 4x4 (with 37k miles) for $17,500 yesterday. This is a sweet truck and if it all turns out to be good, I think i might get it. On the other hand, I drove a 2004 F150 ex. cab xlt 4x2 yesterday. This truck is amazing but I really wanted to get a 4x4 and a new 4x4 is way out of the question. I would be getting this truck for around $23500 (Sticker is about $29k). So what are the opinions of the board? New or used? I just dont know which one is the smarter purchase, esp. since I will be paying for it for at least 4 years. Thanks

 

The 2004 f-150's are really nice...but i would rather have the lariat 4x4...just because its the cheaper price and a great looking truck...:D

 

You can get a brand new 4x4 Ranger for only a little more than that '00 one-fiddy. And for way less than that '04 4x2. Ultimately it's up to you, but one thing to consider w/ new vs used is you can typically get a better finance rate and/or cash incentives on a new vehicle, sometimes that makes all the difference. Although w/ rates as low as they are I've heard a few places are giving 'new' car rates on used car loans..

Edit: Oh, and to be perfectly honest, I like the look of the previous gen 150's over the new '04s. I'm probably in the minority on that one though, the 04s seem quite popular. I've not driven an '04, so I can't comment on much else..

 

Yeah, thanks for your opinions guys... I bought the 2000. Its pretty sweet and I think I got a good deal. got it for $17k. Im more comfortable with the lower payment and love the 4x4. I'll post some pics soon!
