I also heard rumors (totally unrelated to this) that Ford was looking at replacing the Powerstroke with a kitty for the diesels... if that happens, I'll probably trade my Ranger for a 1 ton with a kitty

 

I already posted something on this a few weeks ago, but its good to hear more info about it. Also just talked to a ford engineer who can confirm the F-100..didnt know anything about time frames..but for sure within the next 3 MYs. But when i asked about a bronco or ranger, he said there were no mules or talk of it yet. he had heard..kinda surprised me. For the engine choices Ive been hearing about a 3.7 L V6 based off of the 3.5 in the taurus(tuned for torque tho) or possible a 4.0 DOHC for both of those engines. OR a 4.6 L V8 but all of this is speculation b/c things can change drasitcally w/ the prices of gas lately.

 

Sweet I just hope that they have a crew cab model with a true 6ft bed so I dont have to move up to a F150 to haul the family around in the xcab.

 

f100's started in 51 and before that in 48-50 they hade f1's same thing as f100 though

 

A CAT diesel? I have heard they cant make small road diesels to save their lives. But that would be cool.

I read it in Diesel Power a few months ago. Cummins would never go with Ford, the relationship there isn't positive and the fact Ford owns I think 65 or 70% of CAT.

Apparently they have a few prototypes in line, a small 6 for the F-150, and a bigger I wanna say 6.8L for the F-250-550's.

 

The 3.0 should have died a whle ago. the 2.4 and the 4.0 will stay aound until ford switches to the more fuel eficient twin turbos.

The 4.0 is still in the Sport trac and mustang.

 

that smaller v6 is a Ford/Landrover diesel. its the 3.7L that comes in the rover over in england. As far as I heard its not a CAT motor but who knows where it may have originated.

 

Ford is seperating themselves from Navistar...and building diesels in-house. Meaning...no more powerstroke. I think the F150 will be getting the first Ford in-house diesel in '10.

 

I dont think its the first in house diesel. Ford has tried it before.

 

and failed. I'm trying to find the article, but I can't remember where exactly I've seen it. I've also heard it from a few different sources as well on the CAT/Ford deal. The thing that I see is this, the competition for the diesel market is so tight with he big 3, Ford and GM need to come up with something, Ford morso than GM with regards to a strong diesel. I had heard at the time Dodge and Cummins introduced the 5.9L that their relationship was done, but that turned out to be wrong. Ford could dominate the market if they went with a CAT powerplant... I know a few diesel mechanics who work on all of the big diesel manufacturers and they all said they'd buy a Ford specifically for a CAT if that ended up being the case. Again, I can't remember where I read it, I wanna say Diesel Power a few months ago, but I could be wrong.

 

I wonder about the wisdom of their thinking. They have in the Ranger one of the smallest pick-ups and it has proven very popular over the years. So obviously it does a job that needs to be handled. Now the competition has all followed the price of fuel and gotten much larger. Why not seize the opportunity to do a thorough clean up of the present size Ranger, get an extremely fuel efficient power train, even going Asian or wherever (remember 'Global Economy'). And here you sit, in total control of your end of the market vs. following the pack into bigger and thirstier machinery, where you're just going to be one of many competitors. Bet the Koreans or Chinese are quick to pick up on the lack of American ability to grasp the 'big picture.'

F150's are seen alot in europe, I was watching Top Gear and Clarkson was filling a Bugatti with gas and there was an 04-current F150 filling up next to him.

happy to hear that there will be a 4cyl option. hoping you can get a 4X4 with the 4cyl. no V8, which does'nt surprise me. with the CAFE standerds coming in 2015 we may be starting to see the death of the V8 as we know it today

 

The last year for the F100 was 74, The big 3 change over to the 1500 lbs. load rating to beat the smog requirements set for 75 models rated at 1000 lbs. or less. No air pump or cat required on a 1500 lbs rated vehicle.
