No more manual transmissions ??

It's as simple as you control when the tranny shifts not a computer. Also you more power gets transferred to the ground and engine breaking is way more effective. Also it's so easy to peel out in a manual.

I have only owned manual transmission vehicles and won't own anything else. I love shifting gears and have control what gear the vehicle is in. I am a better, more alert driver driving a manual trans. I hate this slow trend of eliminating manuals, but like everyone else said most people can not drive a manual. Yea it is a pain in traffic but I don't live in a city where I am sitting in traffic all the time. Autos serve their purpose and are good for somethings but it would be nice to still have an option for a manual in vehicles.
Zach, I have my CDL and semi transmissions are non-synchronized, they have straight cut gears and I would love to have that kind of trans in my ranger. Shifting without the clutch is so much easier and more fun. It takes practice to perfect it but once you learn it is awesome.
Manuals FTW!

Honestly...i really miss how fun the chevy was to drive with the old SM465 in it. Always a pain the butt...but still fun as hell when you shift if just right.
The only automatic i've owned.....wasn't bought as an auto....i converted it to auto because it had too much power to be 'fast' on the strip. granny low 4spd sucks when trying to go fast. Said chevy above was converted to TH400 auto last year.

I love the manual in the Ranger. Very smooth compared to my older '90XLT and my Mustang with its Tremec T5.
The Ranger has got to be the lightest clutch I have ever experienced too. Took some getting used to, but my dad loves it. He just had knee surgery (meniscus), and can drive it fine. Not the Mustang though, it's too tough.
I seriously hate the Mustang in the 91 parking lot.

Thanks Shane!! pretty much a repeat here but it's total BS... I mean, everyone should know how to drive a stick and most of the small fleet trucks we get in are manuals (one of our biggest customers has a HUGE fleet osf just rangers... all manuals). My dad got me a manual in my first car 'cause it was cheaper and I fell in love... I know the trucks aren't sporty but I sure feel more like it when I'm shifting not just laying back and steering.... Everyone told me I was crazy for ordering a 2008 with manual trans but I wouldn't change it for the world.

again....perfect!! slushboxes/scattermatics are for pansys in my mind. I CANNOT STAND when somebody has never driven a manual. Doesn't know how. Never learned. And even worse...is when kids parents can't even drive a manual. it's rediculous. Maybe it's the fact i learnd when i was about 6 driving the tractor around...and driving the '50 chevy 3-on-the-tree at age 9 that scews my view...but come on.

Honestly I drive from the north edge of Seattle into downtown every day for work and sometimes down to Gig Harbor... I sit in traffic A LOT and you just get used to it. I've only had a few times where my left foot was DYING but the traffic part of it isn't as bad as it seems... whe it's really bad I just end up one of those assh*l*s who takes a 1/4 mile to roll veeerrrryyyy sslllloooowwwllllyyy to a stop

the evolution of the auto trans has come along way. they might be cheaper to buy in bulk from a supplier then a manual. however, when buying a car or truck with a manual, it's still cheaper ($1400 less in the case of a 4.0 ranger)
to get back to the OP, alot of manufacturers are doing this to save money. people have gotten lazy and the advancements have greatly improved over the years.
i was told, if you can drive stick, you can drive anything. i've never driven a semi with their manual trans, but i'd like to one day. from what i'm told they can be more difficult since the clutch is more sensitive.
i love my truck with a manual, it limits who is able to drive it. course, most my friends and family can drive stick so it doesn't help much there. i don't like it in stop and go or busy traffic, like someone else posted. the next car i buy is gonna have it as well.
i would have bought a fusion, but they don't offer a stick with the v6 and i didn't want a four banger.
i forgot about the straight cut no syncros thing on a semi. a young guy i work with drove truck and tried to explain it to me in training one day.
i'd love to get my hands on an old army 6x6 and see whatthose are like with a manual. should be fun.
